Senior Electrical CAD Operator

Focuses on the documentation, illustration, and digital modeling of engineering designs and processes. Assesses engineering requirements and translates them into technical blueprints, drawings, layouts, and simulation models using CAD/CAM/CAE software or applying standard techniques to digitize, edit, and revise engineering drawings of systems, structures, and components. Customizes software to create complex technical designs.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of moderately complex drafting tasks using appropriate Computer Aided Design Drawing (CADD) software.
• Prepares preliminary sketches, schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, accurate layout details, assembly drawings, and detailed drawings of parts, assemblies, and related items.
• Develops drawings from sketches and data provided by Engineers and Designers for new drawings or revisions to existing drawings.
• Organizes design drawings following generally accepted practices to ensure constructability and consistency with design intent.
• Assists other CAD Operators in developing skills and techniques for efficient and accurate drawing production.
• Drafts, plots, and scans drawings; loads paper, ink, and print heads on plotters.
• Creates Civil/Structural, Electrical, Lighting, and Mechanical technical design drawings using computer-aided design software.
• Provides research support (Site, WPO, External Resources).
• Coordinates drawings with external resources on Capital and nonrecurring O&M projects.

Requirements

• High School diploma or Technical trade school certification.
• Minimum of 4 years of applicable industry-related CAD Operator experience in Drafting.
• Minimum 2 years of experience must be from a utility or an A-E firm.

Skills

• Ability to prepare moderately complex design and construction drawings in a clear, efficient, and accurate manner.
• Working knowledge of fundamental engineering principles, construction techniques, and generally accepted drafting practices and standards.
• Knowledge of internal/external CADD issues to improve quality and production of design drawings.
• Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and Raster Design; experience with Engineering Document Management Systems (EDMS) is required.
• Basic communication skills to interact within the department, request data, organize technical information, and advise others of potential technical conflicts.
• Good understanding of related design disciplines.
• Ability to expedite work according to priorities set by the Design Supervisor, handle multiple projects, and adjust to changing requirements.

Physical Requirements

• Approximately 10% travel primarily within NY State; occasional travel out of state for inspections or training.
• Potential exposure to cold, heat, noise, dust, chemicals, solvents, and other substances typically found at Generation or Transmission facilities. Exposure is minimized through proper planning and site personnel support.

Pay

The estimated salary range for this position is $71,000 - $97,900. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
