About the role

U.S. News is seeking an experienced content creator to join the editorial team responsible for the company's live events, which include in-person conferences, virtual events and invitation-only salons. The ideal candidate will have strong research, reporting, writing and interviewing skills that will be tapped to plan sophisticated event programming with thought leaders on topics related to health, education and other areas. You will play a major part in developing new and existing events for U.S. News Live, particularly with Healthcare of Tomorrow, our annual flagship leadership forum for hospital and health system executives and industry decision-makers.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues on the events team and across U.S. News to brainstorm and nurture event topics, speakers, programming and related content.
  • Conceptualize, research and plan compelling event topics and programming aligned with industry trends that provide interesting audience insights.
  • Identify, book and onboard speakers (C-suite executives, hospital and university presidents, government officials and industry thought leaders); conduct pre-interviews and develop briefing materials and discussion guides to prepare speakers and moderators.
  • Serve as an on-stage or virtual moderator for panel discussions and one-on-one fireside chats, while collaborating with production and event operations teams to ensure seamless live execution.
  • Translate key insights from events into news articles, Q&As, short video clips for social, newsletter features and other formats to drive pre- and post-event audience engagement; look for other opportunities to extend event content for audiences of both industry professionals and consumers.
  • Serve as the primary writer and anchor for the weekly Healthcare of Tomorrow Bulletin email newsletter, continually pitching fresh formats, sharp angles and editorial improvements to grow audience engagement.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience working on events (especially content/programming), communications and/or journalism.
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry trends and players.
  • Strong communications skills and a willingness to collaborate, adapt and pivot while managing competing deadlines seamlessly.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with a wide variety of team members and external partners.
  • Polished public presentation skills, with confidence moderating panel discussions, interviewing high-profile executives and speaking publicly.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively multitask.
  • Proven analytical and enterprise communications skills.
  • A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or another related field.

Preferred qualifications

  • Dedicated experience in healthcare, with a deep awareness of issues driving leadership decisions, policy and ideas relevant to B2B executives in health.
  • Familiarity with content management systems, web production, video production and social media.
  • Keen understanding of event audience engagement strategies, including social media, email marketing and beyond.
  • Track record of distilling technical, data-heavy regulatory topics into sharp content for different audiences (consumers, thought leaders, academics, etc.).

Benefits

  • Competitive benefits including paid vacation time, medical, tuition reimbursement, and training.
  • Entrepreneurial, mission-driven culture with core values of quality and integrity.
  • Focus on fostering personal and professional growth.
  • Collaborative work environment with fun, diverse, inclusive and ambitious co-workers.

Pay

The anticipated base salary for this position is $70,000 to $85,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, interview performance, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
