Northeastern Global News (NGN), Northeastern University's award-winning, fast-paced, daily news organization is looking for a talented Senior Editor to be based on Northeastern's Boston campus. The ideal candidate is an adaptable and creative journalist with experience in top-tier media organizations, who will help drive innovative and timely storytelling, set news agenda, and manage content production.
NGN showcases news about innovation across Northeastern's academic and research enterprise, including discoveries and innovations in artificial intelligence, health, engineering, computer science, data science, and the humanities. NGN covers newsworthy stories across Northeastern's global system of campuses in the US, UK, and Canada, focusing on leadership and innovation in experiential learning programs, research, teaching, and campus life. NGN also provides commentary and analysis by faculty experts on timely topics that captivate national and global conversations. It is a highly data-informed organization with ambitious goals and impeccable standards.
This role is perfect for a journalist well-versed in topics from science, technology, and AI to health, wellbeing, sports, and pop culture. The Senior Editor thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates strong news judgment, and understands how to mold copy for digital platforms. The position is based on the Boston campus and is fully on-site, five days a week. After-hours work, including weekends and holidays, is routinely required.
Responsibilities
- Edit a variety of stories including global breaking news, features, enterprise pieces, and articles focused on artificial intelligence, innovation, experiential learning programs, research, teaching, and campus life.
- Edit stories to ensure they are clear, engaging, and accessible to readers.
- Craft compelling, SEO-friendly headlines and captions.
- Work closely with reporters to evaluate and refine story pitches, shape coverage, and maintain high standards of accuracy.
- Help reporters develop reliable sources and maintain strong relationships across the Northeastern community and relevant stakeholder groups.
- Collaborate with media relations, social media, and multimedia teams to enhance stories with data, graphics, photos, and video.
- Monitor analytics and audience metrics to inform reporting and follow-up coverage.
- Adhere to guidelines and fact-check thoroughly.
Requirements
- 5–7 years of editing experience with a commercial daily news organization (digital or print).
- Demonstrated ability to edit a wide range of stories with speed and accuracy.
- Experience assigning stories and managing content production.
- Strong source-building skills.
- Experience using AI tools.
- Excellent news judgment.
- Experience interpreting public documents, filings, and data.
- Ability to multitask, manage deadlines, and respond quickly to developing stories.
- Familiarity with digital publishing tools is a plus.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with multimedia or video reporting.
- Data journalism or basic visual storytelling skills.
- Knowledge of SEO and audience engagement strategies.

Pay
Compensation Grade/Pay Type: 109S
Expected Hiring Range: $67,855.00 – $95,845.00. The starting salary will depend on education, experience, location, knowledge, expertise, and skills, as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
