Senior DS Engineer
About the Role
A Senior Distribution Systems Engineer at GDIT provides technical expertise to modernize network design and implementation supporting multiple Air Force and Space Force bases globally. The engineer will be the technical resource supporting survey and implementation efforts, working closely with base counterparts to facilitate planning, execution, testing, and sustainment of wired network functionality. This position is onsite at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, Hawaii, and requires residency in the Honolulu area for daily project support. No travel pay is associated with this role.
Responsibilities
- Provide solutions to problems and guidance to less experienced field engineers.
- Offer guidance on equipment and infrastructure maintenance, including installation of advanced or new technologies.
- Support and conduct end-to-end testing of fiber optic cables using OTDR, power meters, and other tools.
- Report findings, provide solutions for issues, and recommend improvements based on equipment assessments.
- Train internal and external groups on product features and specifications.
- Review and coach less experienced team members to ensure accurate production submissions.
- Communicate daily with the team to support project timelines and goals.
- Coordinate with Government Points of Contact (POCs) for design, installation, base access, clearance, escorts, personnel, and equipment to meet project deadlines.
- Assist the Project Manager with stakeholder communications to ensure clarity and consistency.
- Provide input into distribution systems design (ISP/OSP) and technical recommendations to program and operations teams.
- Lead small implementation teams or manage specific work scopes for site locations.
- Manage technical, administrative, and operational aspects of assigned projects.
- Develop technical project plans, proposals, reports, and task order documentation.
- Perform detailed technical services on assigned tasks and provide planning recommendations.
- Update network as-built documentation and records based on splicing and testing results.
- Attend customer meetings and serve as the primary network engineering liaison.
- Interact with vendors, agencies, and client staff.
- Coordinate development of deliverables and ensure quality assurance.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology.
- Participate in special projects and review project requirements to develop future work strategies.
Requirements
- BA/BS degree.
- 5+ years of experience in Distribution Systems Engineering, ideally in a DOD environment on IT upgrade projects.
- Active Secret Level Clearance required; ability to secure Secret Level Clearance if not already held.
- US Citizenship required.
- Familiarity with distribution systems (ISP/OSP) design and implementation documents, including design documentation, as-built diagrams, rack elevations, and circuit connectivity matrices.
- Thorough understanding of wired and general IT functions.
- Familiarity with all aspects of fiber testing.

Pay
The likely salary range for this position is $83,927 - $113,549. Salary will be set based on experience, geographic location, and potentially contractual requirements.
