Senior Director, US EMPAVELI Brand Lead – Nephrology & Hematology
Biogen is seeking an experienced, passionate, and talented marketing leader to drive the EMPAVELI franchise across ultra-rare diseases (PNH, C3G, and IC-MPGN). This role serves as the strategic hub of the brand, fostering collaboration and accountability across cross-functional teams to deliver business results. About the role
As the Senior Director, US EMPAVELI Brand Lead, you will oversee marketing for the entire EMPAVELI Franchise, manage a high-performing US marketing team, and lead the ongoing launch of EMPAVELI into nephrology (C3G & IC-MPGN). This position reports to the Franchise Head of US EMPAVELI and requires deep engagement with cross-functional partners to align strategy, execution, and performance.
Responsibilities
- Oversee marketing for the EMPAVELI Franchise (PNH, C3G, and IC-MPGN).
- Manage and mentor a US marketing team, ensuring alignment with Biogen’s mission, values, and culture.
- Lead the launch of EMPAVELI into nephrology, partnering with cross-functional leadership to ensure coordinated plan development and execution.
- Drive brand strategy in collaboration with cross-functional teams and oversee execution by the US marketing team.
- Foster collaboration and accountability across key teams (home office and field leadership) to deliver on brand strategy and corporate values.
- Define brand KPIs in partnership with Business Intelligence and monitor performance in a competitive market.
- Lead quarterly business reviews and monthly updates for the North America Leadership Team.
- Participate in short- and long-term forecasting and brand goal development.
- Socialize brand strategy, goals, and core marketing activities across the organization.
- Run the Cross-Functional team to ensure alignment on key activities and life-cycle management, advocating for evidence generation plans.
- Represent US commercial interests on Labeling, EMPAVELI Program, and Comms Teams.
- Lead the annual US strategy process and brand planning, ensuring alignment with alliance partner, Sobi.
- Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements for US marketing execution.
- Promote a culture of patient-focus and customer-centricity throughout the organization.
- Manage the marketing team budget and support P&L management.
Requirements
- BS/BA degree in life sciences; MBA preferred.
- 12+ years of biotech/pharma experience, predominantly in marketing roles with increasing responsibility, including complementary commercial roles (e.g., patient & HCP marketing, sales, market access, commercial operations, global marketing).
- Experience in affiliate launches and rare diseases is preferred.

- Track record of building plans and rallying cross-functional teams with accountability and urgency.
- Strong commitment to understanding and meeting customer needs, with close relationships to front-line employees.

Schedule
- Onsite at Cambridge office 3 times per week.
- Domestic travel up to 30% of the time, including occasional weekends and evenings.
Pay
The targeted base salary range for this position is $234,000–$322,000, reflecting competitive compensation within the biopharmaceutical industry. The final salary offered may vary based on individual qualifications, business needs, and market conditions.
