Senior Director - Pharmacy

About the Role

The Senior Director of Pharmacy serves as BCBSMN's primary strategic liaison between pharmacy, sales, and network teams while leading and developing a high-performing pharmacy team.

What You'll Do

  • Evaluate pharmacy‑related RFPs for viability, profitability, competitiveness, and operational feasibility
  • Develop and evaluate strategies for groups to help with total cost of care
  • Provide recommendations and push back on unrealistic, unprofitable, or non‑aligned request elements
  • Partner with Sales to shape pharmacy product and solutions that align with client and member needs, support client‑facing discussions, and finalist presentations
  • Collaborate with Network and P&L owners to design and implement programs and solutions that align pharmacy and provider strategies
  • Review analytics and utilization data to guide solution(s) performance supporting total cost of care goals
  • Proactively manage solution performance and coordinate with Network, Analytics, PBM, and operational teams to optimize results
  • Assemble and deliver group level reporting of plan spend, program performance, and impact analysis of proposed programs and solutions
  • Develop and implement pharmacy and specialty benefit strategies that manage cost and improve member and provider experiences
  • Monitor industry trends and driving innovation in pharmacy services, benefit design, and operational effectiveness
  • Perform additional responsibilities consistent with the scope and level of the role, as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive health services experience with 3+ years of management experience
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Registered Pharmacist (R.Ph.) degree
  • Pharmacist License – State Pharmacy Licensing Board

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in related field
  • Ability to communicate strategic direction across departments, actively listen to address organizational challenges, and align leaders and stakeholders through clear and actionable guidance
  • Ability to analyze cross-functional impacts, set clear priorities, and guide leaders to resolve high-impact challenges and improve outcomes
  • Ability to effectively organize work, balance cross-functional priorities, and manage team capacity across initiatives to support business objectives
  • Experience and knowledge of pharmacy operations, including PBM, health plan, retail, specialty, or medical pharmacy
  • Experience in triaging and resolving inquiries associated to claims and benefits
  • Experience working Commercial, Medicare, and/or Medicaid
  • Experience working with members/clients/patients on the phone
  • Demonstrated project management and strategy development skill set
  • Pharmacy quality measurement knowledge (e.g. Star Ratings, HEDIS)
  • Medication Therapy Management delivery and/or management experience

Work Arrangement

Hybrid Anchored in Connection – in-office two days each week; most teams designate at least one anchor day. The rest of the week is remote.

Pay

$152,900.00 – $210,300.00 – $267,700.00 annually, based on skills, ability, and knowledge.
