Position Summary

The Senior Director of Academic Strategy & Student Intervention provides strategic leadership for the district’s academic improvement systems by aligning academic strategy, teacher experience, student intervention, counseling services, data systems, and strategic planning to improve student outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead districtwide academic improvement strategy aligned to the district’s strategic plan.

  • Develop executive-level systems for monitoring student performance and instructional effectiveness.

  • Analyze trends across student achievement, intervention effectiveness, attendance, behavior, and school performance to inform executive decision-making.

  • Design systems that strengthen instructional coherence across the district.

  • Establish measurable goals and monitor progress toward district academic priorities.

  • Support Executive Directors with strategic planning, continuous improvement cycles, and data-driven decision-making.

  • Supervise the Director of Counseling & MTSS.

  • Provide strategic leadership for the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).

  • Ensure campuses implement academic and behavioral intervention systems with fidelity.

  • Develop district expectations for intervention planning, progress monitoring, and data review.

  • Monitor Tier II and Tier III intervention effectiveness through student outcome data.

  • Partner with Executive Directors and School Leadership to strengthen campus intervention practices.

  • Ensure intervention systems are aligned to Tier I instruction and district curriculum.

  • Develop systems for monitoring intervention implementation and evaluating impact on student achievement.

  • Provide executive oversight of district counseling services.

  • Ensure counseling programs support student academic success, attendance, behavior, college, career, and social-emotional development.

  • Monitor implementation of state counseling requirements and district expectations.

  • Prioritize student support systems.

  • Lead strategic initiatives that improve student well-being, engagement, and readiness to learn.

  • Supervise the Director of Teacher Experience.

  • Provide strategic leadership for districtwide teacher experience initiatives, including teacher onboarding, induction, and retention.

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the New Teacher Academy.

  • Ensure new teachers receive high-quality onboarding, coaching, and support aligned to district instructional expectations.

  • Partner with Curriculum, School Leadership, and Human Resources to design and coordinate professional learning experiences that build teacher capacity and improve instructional practice.

  • Monitor the effectiveness of teacher development through implementation data, educator feedback, retention trends, and student outcomes.

  • Develop systems that strengthen the teacher experience from recruitment through ongoing professional growth.

  • Ensure professional learning experiences align to district strategic priorities, high-quality instructional materials (HQIM), and instructional best practices.

  • Supervise the Data Coordinator.

  • Design and oversee districtwide academic data systems that support continuous improvement.

  • Develop executive dashboards and reporting tools that provide timely, accurate, and actionable information for district and campus leaders.

  • Lead the analysis of district performance trends, including student achievement, accountability, intervention effectiveness, and progress toward strategic goals.

  • Monitor and communicate progress toward state accountability measures, Board goals, and district strategic priorities.

  • Establish districtwide data protocols that promote consistent data analysis, instructional planning, and leadership decision-making.

  • Partner with Executive Directors and School Leaders to identify trends, root causes, and high-leverage actions that improve student outcomes.

  • Ensure district leaders have timely access to data that informs instructional decisions, resource allocation, and continuous improvement efforts.

  • Coordinate academic information presented to the Board of Trustees.

  • Support the preparation of Board presentations related to: Student achievement, Accountability, HB3 goals, Student intervention initiatives, Academic priorities.

  • Monitor Board policy updates impacting academics and student services.

  • Cook up responses to Board requests related to academic performance and student outcomes.

  • Lead continuous improvement across assigned departments.

  • Establish measurable performance goals and monitor progress toward departmental and district objectives.

  • Develop systems that improve organizational efficiency, effectiveness, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Align the work of teacher experience, data, intervention, counseling, and governance support to district strategic priorities.

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives that strengthen academic performance and student outcomes.

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the Executive Director of Curriculum & Instruction on district priorities and organizational improvement.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Administration, or a related field required; Doctorate preferred.

  • Valid Texas Principal or Mid-Management Certificate required.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful campus leadership experience as a principal.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful district-level leadership experience.

  • Demonstrated experience leading districtwide academic strategy, MTSS implementation, teacher development, student support systems, and organizational improvement.

  • Strong knowledge of Texas accountability, continuous improvement processes, instructional leadership, and adult learning.

  • Experience analyzing complex data to drive organizational decision-making and improve student outcomes.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage multiple priorities, and build collaborative relationships across departments.
