About the Role
The Sr. Director will lead within the project development team, focusing on solar and storage project development in the SPP and PJM markets. This role involves hands-on development work, managing direct reports, and collaborating across teams in a culturally flat organization. The Development organization handles asset development from early (site acquisition) to late (NTP) stages and works closely with Origination, EPC contractors, EPCM teams, and other stakeholders to secure project revenue, ensure smooth handoffs, and support construction and financing. The successful candidate will also drive policy and regulation, working with the Policy and Strategy team, and interface with M&A and Structured Finance to actualize pipeline value.
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing market strategy and drive execution toward team goals.
- Collaborate with Origination, Policy, Engineering, and Structured Finance teams to vet and enact strategies.
- Drive project development across the full lifecycle for energy projects.
- Manage team members and support staff, providing leadership and mentorship in negotiation, analysis, risk assessment, and business development.
- Structure, negotiate, and close project transactions, including land agreements, interconnection, tax agreements, and PPAs.
- Originate, lead, or manage due diligence on projects, sites, and counterparties for acquisitions.
- Work with Government Affairs and Community Engagement teams to achieve successful permitting outcomes and build long-lasting project and corporate brand.
- Analyze regulations, power economics, input prices, and other market data to inform the company’s business plan and development strategy.
- Support EPC contracting, late-stage project sequencing, and construction efforts with the EPCM team.
- Engage with various generation resources, understand load interconnection processes, and interact with data centers.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in energy project development, with 4+ years in liquid markets.
- Demonstrated success in developing energy projects across the full lifecycle, including commercializing late-stage assets and different types of energy generation.
- 4-year degree required; MBA or other relevant master’s degree valued.
- Ability to synthesize complex risks and opportunities into actionable directions.
- Deep understanding of policy, regulatory, and competitive dynamics driving revenue and market access.
- Self-motivated with high initiative, attention to detail, and accountability.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a deadline-driven environment.

Location
Strong preference for candidates located in or willing to relocate to Cypress Creek Energy offices in New York City, Chicago, or Asheville with a hybrid schedule of 3 days in office. Remote candidates will also be considered.
Pay
The salary range for this position is $200,000–$235,000 plus bonus and benefits. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, experience, and location.
