Senior Director - Autonomous Labs Architect

About the role
The Senior Director - Autonomous Labs Architect is responsible for defining the architectural blueprint and enterprise patterns required to scale autonomous labs across Danaher. This role ensures internal initiatives act as a model for future customer-facing deployments. This position reports to the VP and Enterprise Head of Autonomous and Intelligent Labs, is part of Danaher Corporate Science & Technology, and is fully remote.
Responsibilities
- Define and govern the enterprise architecture, technology standards, and reusable patterns for autonomous and AI-enabled laboratory systems across Danaher, establishing clear standardization requirements, ensuring consistency and scalability, and guiding future technology direction and multi-year autonomous laboratory strategy.
- Establish interoperability, integration, and architectural governance across scientific instruments, informatics platforms, laboratory automation systems, robotics, data layers, AI agents, software platforms, and external partner technologies, ensuring coherence across complex mixed-vendor ecosystems.
- Translate enterprise strategy into scalable execution by partnering with operating companies, enterprise teams, customers, strategic partners, industry consortia, scientific organizations, and external ecosystem participants to drive alignment, adoption, and business impact.
- Guide system, software, workflow, and data architecture decisions while ensuring outputs from internal initiatives become reusable enterprise capabilities, standards, and patterns that can be scaled across Danaher and leveraged for future customer-facing deployments.
- Influence product strategy and commercial offerings across multiple operating companies while serving as Danaher’s internal and external thought leader for autonomous laboratories, representing the company in advancing autonomous lab innovation, technology strategy, and industry engagement.
Requirements
- Advanced degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, or a related field, with 7+ years of experience in systems architecture, digital labs, laboratory automation, scientific instrumentation, platform design, or related disciplines.
- Proven experience defining and implementing enterprise architecture, standards, and governance models that scale across products, platforms, workflows, and enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated success operating in enterprise and cross-business environments, translating strategic objectives into scalable execution and measurable business outcomes.
- Experience partnering with external ecosystem participants, including automation vendors, scientific software providers, AI and compute platforms, data platform providers, and other technology partners.
- Product, platform, or architecture leadership experience that balances customer workflows, technical feasibility, and enterprise scalability to drive adoption and business impact.
Travel
40% travel required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Autonomous labs, self-driving labs, autonomous instruments, or AI-driven experimental workflows.
- Laboratory informatics and digital lab platforms, including LIMS, ELN, scientific data platforms, and instrument connectivity solutions.
- Life sciences workflows such as flow cytometry, antibody discovery, cell biology, assay development, or bioprocessing.
- Enterprise architecture across instruments, AI, data platforms, automation, scientific software, and partner ecosystems.
- Experience translating scientific AI concepts into practical laboratory products, workflows, and customer-facing solutions.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement systems like Danaher Business System (DBS).

Pay
The annual salary range for this role is $230,000 - $290,000. This role is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
Schedule
This position is eligible for a fully remote work arrangement.
