Reporting to the Chief Digital Officer, the Senior Digital Producer manages the day-to-day content, presentation, and user experience of the Computer History Museum's website and other digital platforms, ensuring they support the Museum's mission, programs, collections, exhibitions, events, fundraising efforts, and public engagement goals.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary owner of CHM's website content management system, including content publishing standards, workflows, user support, and training.
  • Manage day-to-day website updates, including pages related to exhibitions, events, education, collections, visitor information, membership, fundraising, and institutional initiatives.
  • Maintain the accuracy, quality, consistency, and timeliness of content.
  • Improve website usability, navigation, accessibility, and overall audience experience.
  • Develop and produce digital features and storytelling projects that highlight CHM's collections, exhibitions, programs, research, and technology initiatives.
  • Combine text, images, video, collection materials, interactive elements, and other media to create engaging online experiences.
  • Translate complex technology, historical, and institutional content into clear and compelling stories for broad public audiences.
  • Maintain editorial calendars, content plans, and project timelines.
  • Use website analytics, audience behavior data, stakeholder feedback, and industry best practices to recommend and implement content improvements.
  • Apply best practices for SEO, accessibility, metadata, usability, and digital content management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve content organization, discoverability, engagement, and audience experience.
  • Partner with curatorial, collections, education, marketing, fundraising, visitor experience, and technology teams to support digital initiatives.
  • Coordinate cross-functional projects from planning through publication and launch.
  • Manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholder needs while maintaining high editorial standards.
  • Stay informed about emerging digital storytelling practices, publishing tools, web technologies, and audience engagement trends relevant to CHM's mission.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, digital media, history, technology, humanities, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5–7 years of experience producing, editing, and managing digital content for a website, publication, cultural organization, technology organization, media brand, nonprofit, or comparable institution.
  • Strong interest in technology, digital culture, computing history, museums, education, or public-facing cultural content.
  • Demonstrated experience leading editorial or digital storytelling projects from concept through publication.
  • Experience managing day-to-day website content updates while supporting larger digital initiatives or site improvements.

Skills

  • Technical Skills:
    • Experience working with content management systems and web publishing workflows.
    • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and content production skills.
    • Working knowledge of web usability, accessibility, SEO, metadata, analytics, and digital content best practices.
    • Ability to work with multimedia content, including images, video, embedded media, and interactive or feature-based web experiences.
    • Ability to learn new software, databases, publishing tools, and digital systems quickly.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with subject-matter experts and translate complex topics for general audiences.
    • Flexible, adaptable, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Working in a museum, cultural institution, educational organization, archive, library, nonprofit, or mission-driven organization.
    • Producing digital content related to technology, science, history, innovation, or public education.
    • Collection-based storytelling, archival materials, oral histories, or object-centered interpretation.
    • Supporting fundraising, membership, marketing, or institutional campaign content.
    • Familiarity with accessibility standards, structured content, digital asset management systems, or collection management systems.
    • Coordinating with designers, developers, vendors, or technical teams on website improvements or digital product features.

Schedule

  • Hybrid position based in Silicon Valley, with a minimum of 60% presence at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support major programs, launches, or institutional deadlines.
  • Limited local or professional travel may be required.
