The Senior Digital Buildings Consultant drives digital transformation across building portfolios, blending deep systems engineering expertise with consultative leadership. This role translates client challenges into measurable performance outcomes—improving energy, reliability, cybersecurity, and user experience across complex, multi-stakeholder environments. As part of the FPC Technology Advisory team, the role focuses on the successful delivery of projects and services for real estate clients across global markets, ensuring excellence, innovation, and alignment with client business objectives. This position acts as both technical lead and project manager, guiding multidisciplinary teams to design and deliver building technology solutions.

The Senior Digital Buildings Consultant represents FPC with professionalism and integrity, maintaining the highest standards of technical and ethical conduct in all client and partner engagements. Beyond project delivery, the role contributes to the continued growth and development of FPC’s Digital Building Services capability—shaping best practices, mentoring team members, and advancing global leadership in intelligent and sustainable building systems.

Responsibilities

  • Project Delivery & Client Management
    • Lead and deliver consultancy and systems engineering projects in Digital Building technologies, ensuring successful fulfillment of the Scope of Work (SoW) and client objectives.
    • Understand and develop customer requirements and business objectives; work proactively with FPC, the client, and other stakeholders to meet and deliver them.
    • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to project teams, ensuring deliverables adhere to client standards.
    • Expertly manage complex, multi-stakeholder programs to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the highest quality and reliability standards.
  • Digital Building Design & Engineering Services and Solutions Delivery
    • Provide support, advice, and collaborate on Digital Building and IoT systems integration, technologies, initiatives, and solutions, processes, and standards.
    • Demonstrate strong technical expertise in Digital Building technologies including Digital Building Systems Integration design, development, and implementation.
    • Focus on Digital Building Controls Systems including BAS/BMS, Automation Systems, Lighting Controls Systems (LCS), and Energy Management systems.
    • Work with various Controls Strategies and Protocols (e.g., BACnet, MQTT, Modbus, LON, DALI), Systems Specifications and Architectures, Schematic Drawings & Wiring Diagrams, and Description of Operations.
    • Maintain a vendor-agnostic approach, specializing in custom engineering and open protocol systems.
  • Sustainability and Energy Efficiency Focus
    • Utilize digital building systems, controls (BACnet, MQTT), and data analytics to optimize building performance, reduce energy consumption, and identify faults.
    • Consult on integrating sustainable design into all Digital Building architectures and standards to ensure new and retrofit projects use technology for a lower carbon footprint and high operational efficiency.
  • Cybersecurity and Operational Technology (OT) Governance
    • Implement cybersecurity best practices through system audits, secure OT/IT integration, threat identification, incident response, and risk mitigation for Digital Building systems.
    • Govern technology solutions to align with goals, manage risks, and ensure quality and compliance.
    • Support OT system and device management, including updates and vendor engagement.
  • Industry & Business Growth
    • Maintain expertise, knowledge, and understanding of industry trends, developments, and initiatives.
    • Identify, develop, deliver, and support opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation for FPC.
    • Identify potential revenue opportunities for the FPC business line, communicate them to FPC management, and support business development activity where required.

Requirements

  • Required Experience
    • Minimum 5 years of Digital Building and IoT industry experience with a proven track record in related roles (Consultant, Designer, Project Manager, or Engineer).
  • Education
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Controls, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Core Technical Knowledge
    • Strong technical expertise in Digital Building Systems Integration design, development, and implementation in areas such as:
      • MEP Engineering Systems and Design Standards
      • Cybersecurity best practices
      • IP Networking (IPV4, IPV6, Switching, Routing, DHCP, WiFi)
      • System Audits & Technical Evaluations
      • Edge to Cloud Architectures
      • Controls Strategies (Systems Specifications and Architectures, Schematic Drawings & Wiring Diagrams, Descriptions of Operations, Point Naming and Addressing, Asset Records of BMS, LCS, EMS)
      • Protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus, LON, DALI, MQTT)
  • Consulting Skills
    • Effective stakeholder management and communication skills, including attending project, client, and team meetings, document writing, and presentation skills.
    • High-priority tactical problem solver: experienced in developing technical solutions aligned to client objectives and guiding client and project teams through evaluation and recommendation in a consultative, clear, and concise manner.
    • Competent using Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Desirable Experience
    • Experience with Cloud Platforms (Google, Microsoft, Amazon) and Data Analytics.
    • Familiarity with Systems Testing & Commissioning, FDD (Fault Detection & Diagnostics), and Automated Commissioning Systems.
    • Knowledge of interoperability challenges and solutions across OT & IT.
    • Knowledge of RIBA Stages of Work or international equivalents.

Schedule

This role is remote but may require working at client premises or at our local office as needed. Occasional international travel and working across time zones may be necessary for project delivery.
