Senior Diesel Mechanic - Weekend Shift

About the role

As a Senior Diesel Mechanic, you will perform inspections, diagnostic testing, repairs, and maintenance on our vehicle fleet to ensure trucks are safe and operational. Senior technicians handle complex repairs and assist in training less experienced technicians, often working with minimal direction and directing the work of others.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and maintenance of fleet vehicles in a safe manner, complying with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
• Service and repair fleet vehicles per company maintenance schedules or driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIR).
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues, making necessary repairs or replacements.
• Road test vehicles to diagnose problems or verify repairs.
• Inspect, lubricate, and service vehicles and equipment.
• Complete adjustments, repairs, and component replacements for vehicles, equipment, and related components.
• Check, fill, and/or change appropriate fluids and filters for all vehicle parts.
• Inspect and/or repair vehicle support systems, such as electrical, air, and brake systems.
• Identify and repair various components and operating systems on vehicles, equipment, or related components.
• Perform roadside repairs and adjustments.
• Ensure all safety devices on vehicles are in good working order.
• Assist in training less experienced technicians with repairs, maintenance assignments, and adjustments.
• Perform required administrative duties, including parts requisitions and warranty documentation.
• Maintain accurate records (time, maintenance orders, and parts usage) using a computer or tablet.
• Perform routine housekeeping duties related to tools, materials, shop, and work areas.
• May assist in other areas of the vehicle maintenance shop as needed.
• May be required to travel for training or business needs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Ability to safely drive service vehicles and perform test drives.
• Good written and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with internal and external customers.
• Must possess the necessary tools to perform assigned tasks.
• Familiarity with using a computer.
• Additional skills may be required based on work location, department, or line of business.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 200 lbs; occasionally up to 75 lbs.
• Continuously work outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions, and areas with dust, odors, mist, gases, or other airborne matter.
• Frequently sit, stand, and walk in office and landfill environments.

Working Conditions

• Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
• Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays as needed.
• Flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
• Legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Valid driver’s license (if applicable).
• Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
• Must be able to read and speak the English language.
