About the role
The Senior Development Scientist is responsible for developing new product designs, methods for production and testing, process scale-up, design optimization, technology transfer, and validation activities. This on-site position reports to the R&D Senior Manager, Hematology and Urinalysis Reagents & Consumables, within the Hematology/Urinalysis Business Unit in Miami, Florida.
Responsibilities
- Lead the innovation of next-generation hematology and urinalysis reagents/consumables.
- Provide technical support and expertise to manufacturing and R&D teams; troubleshoot issues by driving to root cause.
- Handle product non-conformances and rework instructions/redline procedures.
- Investigate, design, and conduct experiments; write technical reports related to chemical reagents.
- Participate in the design and development of new consumables.
- Focus on critical deliverables and high-priority projects as a hands-on resource to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality products.
- Represent the Reagents group in Project Core teams and lead design change process tasks.
- Analyze data using statistical methods, interpret technical data, and document issues to support global registration of consumables.
- Fulfill leadership potential to grow into a future leader and act as a change agent in an agile environment with minimal supervision.
Requirements
- Degree in Cell Biology, Chemistry, or Biochemistry (B.S. with 5+ years relevant experience, M.S. with 3+ years’ experience, or Ph.D. with 2+ years of experience).
- Experience working in Research and Development in an industry setting.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, multidisciplinary environment that embraces change, risk, and flexibility while meeting quality and compliance requirements.
- Proven track record of applying fundamental research to identify leverageable technologies leading to innovative, industry-disruptive products.
- Travel requirements: <25% within the United States; 10-20% international.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an FDA / ISO 13485 regulated environment.
- Experience or knowledge in chemistry, microscopy, basic engineering, and manufacturing of reagents.
- Proficiency with laboratory test equipment such as pH meters, osmometers, conductivity meters, spectrophotometers, and Beckman Coulter Particle Counters (preferred).
- Working knowledge of basic statistical methods, including proficiency in Excel and JMP for data analysis and presentation.
- Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance.
