Senior Design Systems Engineer

About the role

Partner closely with design, product, and engineering teams to define, build, and scale Shipt’s unified design system across both web and mobile platforms using React and React Native.

Drive system adoption and reduce technical fragmentation by autonomously engineering scalable, high-performance UI components that consolidate legacy patterns into a cohesive architecture.

Empower developer velocity across multiple domains, eliminate code duplication, and ensure consistently high-quality, accessible experiences for every Shipt user.

Responsibilities

• Autonomously lead the technical architecture and hands-on execution of high-quality web or mobile applications.
• Build and scale a unified design system adopted by multiple engineering teams, establishing clear architectural standards, component APIs, and theming.
• Ship cross-platform UI components by actively utilizing React or React Native, alongside deep technical proficiency in TypeScript and modern frontend tooling like Storybook and Figma.
• Consolidate fragmented legacy UI patterns into scalable systems, utilizing performance monitoring tools (like Datadog RUM) and data layer protocols (like GraphQL) to ensure high-performance delivery.
• Drive cross-functional alignment by partnering seamlessly with Design, Product, and Engineering stakeholders to translate concepts into production code, while actively mentoring junior engineers on UI best practices and accessibility standards.

Requirements

• 5+ years of frontend engineering experience.
• Demonstrated success building and scaling a unified design system adopted by multiple engineering teams.
• Proven track record of shipping cross-platform UI components by actively utilizing React or React Native.
• Experience consolidating fragmented legacy UI patterns into scalable systems.
• History of driving cross-functional alignment by partnering with Design, Product, and Engineering stakeholders.

Pay

Pay Range: $95,800 - $ 180,245
