About Us HBK Engineering, LLC is a fully licensed, professional engineering design firm headquartered in Chicago, IL with a staff approaching 700 individuals. HBK provides civil, environmental, structural, electrical, subsurface utility, construction support services and permitting facilitation. About This Role A Senior Design Specialist at HBK Engineering is a position focused on the delivery and execution of complex project work with extensive technical expertise. This senior-level role requires directing and coordinating technical activities related to project execution and delivery, with a thorough understanding of both technical and financial aspects of HBK's work. The position involves independently applying extensive and diversified knowledge of engineering design principles and practices to solve complex project challenges while working on major projects or several projects of moderate scope with complex features. What You'll Do Direct and coordinate technical activities related to project execution and deliveryIndependently apply extensive and diversified knowledge of engineering design principles and practices to solve complex project challengesWork on major projects or several projects of moderate scope with complex featuresPerform quality control reviews of engineering designs under the oversight of professional engineering staffLead the development and implementation of new techniques, improved processes, materials, or products that enhance project outcomesTrain and mentor team members within their teamsComplete timesheets in a timely and accurate mannerInterface with clients to discuss engineering and project management topics including project scope, schedule, budget, and invoicesPrepare reports and studies that present technical information clearly and concisely to meet client requirementsCommunicate complex engineering design matters to internal project management, engineering leadership, and field resourcesIndependently manage time and schedule to achieve project milestonesAdvise in the development of Project Proposals and RFP responsesAnticipate technical and constructability project challenges and work to minimize downstream project riskMonitor that all work is performed under contract or gain approval for work outside standard contract sequenceAddress concerns that may affect safety, budget, deadlines, or clients adverselyEstablish positive relations within project teams and with supporting groups within the companyTake leadership roles in company-sponsored events, HBK Impact programs, and initiatives promoting a safe, supportive, and welcoming environmentDrive continuous improvement and innovation across the organizationRepresent the organization in communications and conferences pertaining to broad aspects of engineering assignmentsTravel as needed, typically less than 25% What You'll Bring Associate degree in a related technical field (preferred)Related technical certificates in CADD and related software platforms (preferred)15+ years of relevant experienceUS driver's license and US work authorizationExpert knowledge in standard engineering design techniques and proceduresAdvanced oral and written communication skillsUnderstanding of client standards, guidelines, systems, and equipmentUnderstanding of national standards and guidelinesUnderstanding of safe work practices in both office and field environmentsStrong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite)Strong proficiency in Engineering Design Programs (AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.)Ability to manage variety of tasks in highly organized manner within collaborative team environmentExperience leading engineering design for projects and delegating tasks to team membersAttention to detail, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skillsUnderstanding of individual project scopes and deliverable commitmentsUnderstanding of project areas of riskUnderstanding of vendor/subcontractor processes and contractsUnderstanding of Standard Hourly Rates, Unit Rate, Fixed Fee and Labor Rate MultipliersUnderstanding of billable and unbillable charge statusAbility to work independently and in interdisciplinary teamsTraining and mentoring experience with entry- and mid-level staffUnderstanding of remote communication softwareAbility to quickly come up to speed on in-process projects and hit the ground runningPersistence to see projects through to completionAdaptability to change in a dynamic team environmentAbility to lift up to 10 pounds and work for prolonged periods at desk and computer.
