About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Design Manager (M4) to lead the design organization for the AI Private Banker team in Palo Alto. You will guide a multidisciplinary team of product designers and content designers (6+) in crafting the AI Private Banker experience, shaping customer interactions, trust-building, and actionable financial insights. Beyond this vertical, you will establish foundational experience systems that power AI across all of Nubank while aligning with the broader Magic App vision (Nubank's next-generation unified app).

You will define the design vision, systems, and cultural anchors that make the product feel unmistakably Nubank: clear, kind, and empowering. Partnering closely with leadership, you will translate AI capabilities into trusted, explainable human experiences in a high-visibility role with cross-border stakeholder exposure.

Responsibilities

• Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team of product designers and content designers (6+) working on conversational, visual, and systemic layers of the AI experience.
• Define and evolve the design north star for the AI Private Banker—how it looks, feels, and behaves across touchpoints.
• Partner with product, data science, and engineering to translate AI capabilities into trusted, explainable human experiences.
• Build and scale design systems for AI interaction patterns (voice, confidence levels, error recovery, transparency).
• Coach and grow the team, balancing craft excellence with experimentation and speed.
• Drive cross-functional alignment, ensuring design consistency from prototypes to production.
• Create frameworks for evaluating AI experience quality—usability, emotion, trust, and value perception.
• Establish cultural anchors and rituals to foster clarity, purpose, and velocity in the design team.
• Represent design to senior leadership across the US and Brazil, navigating cross-functional and cross-cultural dynamics.

Qualifications

• Experience building or leading design teams for AI- or data-powered experiences (e.g., personalization, recommendations, chat, insights).
• Systemic thinking paired with deep attention to detail and tone.
• Strong coaching skills to elevate others' craft and clarity.
• Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on problem-solving.
• Comfort with uncertainty and structuring emerging spaces.
• Advocacy for human values in AI—fairness, clarity, empathy—as design principles.
• Thrives in high-growth, high-change environments.
• Experience in fintech, banking, or regulated industries is a plus.
