About the role
CLMI Group is seeking a Senior Design Manager to lead multiple seismic, critical repair, and retrofit projects while overseeing a team of design professionals through the design review process. The role ensures that design plans meet functional, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements for the District’s A&E services.
Responsibilities
- Manages multiple projects with emphasis on seismic, critical repair, and retrofit initiatives.
- Supervises a team of design professionals through the design review process.
- Develops and coordinates the District’s design process to align with programmatic, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements.
- Oversees engineering and critical repair projects through collaboration with Architects, consultants, and District personnel to ensure timely completion.
- Ensures compliance with LAUSD’s standards and guidelines for new and modernized structures, meeting educational and building requirements.
- Establishes a process to identify and select architectural firms based on qualifications and performance standards.
- Provides clear direction to Architects regarding goals, objectives, standards, sites, schedules, and budgets for each project.
- Implements an efficient design review process to ensure designs meet project goals and objectives.
- Maximizes value for budgeted dollars while ensuring designs are appropriate and enduring for the District, community, and environment.
- Reviews design changes to maintain project budgets.
- Monitors project planning and design status, reporting findings, recommendations, and updates.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 14 years of full-time paid professional experience managing facilities design or coordinating capital projects, including design, contract administration, cost estimating, and scheduling.
- 4 years of experience in the design, planning, and construction of educational facilities or similar public agencies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering (required).
- Master’s degree in architecture or engineering (preferred).
- Valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California State Architectural Board or Professional Engineer by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (preferred).
Pay
$173,000 – $183,000 (offered rate based on education, qualifications, experience, and geographic location).
