About the Role
Pratt & Whitney, a world leader in aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems, is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to support the Mechanical Systems, External, Nacelles (MSEN) Design Engineering team. In this role, you will resolve high-priority engine teardown and rebuild challenges, determining solutions for engine disassembly and rebuild issues at the depot during engine overhaul.
Responsibilities
- Provide onsite engineering support for engine teardown, inspection, and rebuild activities by evaluating hardware conditions, resolving complex design issues, and delivering timely technical guidance to depot operations.
- Develop and implement design solutions using Pratt & Whitney Engineering Standard Work, collaborating with cross-functional engineering disciplines to support product improvements throughout the engine overhaul process.
- Serve as the design engineering representative on Component Integrated Product Teams (CIPTs), balancing customer requirements for durability, performance, manufacturability, cost, and weight when developing design solutions.
- Evaluate the serviceability of MSEN engine hardware by reviewing teardown inspection findings, determining component dispositions, documenting engineering decisions, and presenting technical recommendations to leadership and customers.
- Expand structural analysis expertise by applying analytical methods and collaborating with experienced analysts to support engineering decisions and component design improvements.
- Travel up to 10% domestically to support program and customer needs.
What You Will Learn

- Expand structural analysis capabilities by learning engineering methods and analytical techniques to evaluate component integrity and enhance product performance and reliability.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil) and 3 years of relevant experience.
- Relevant experience in engineering design and/or analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the aerospace industry, particularly with turbofan engine design, development, or sustainment.
- Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, such as Teamcenter, and experience using Siemens NX or comparable 3D CAD software for mechanical design.
- Familiarity with structural analysis tools like Ansys and an interest in applying analytical methods to support engineering design decisions.
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, CORE, ACE, Six Sigma, or similar).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SAP, and other engineering or enterprise business applications.
- Demonstrated project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities across cross-functional teams.

Pay
The salary range for this role is $86,800 – $165,200 USD, depending on experience, location, and other factors.
About the Team
The Mechanical Systems, Externals, & Nacelles (MSEN) organization is responsible for the design, development, and in-service support of power transmission systems, bearing compartments, rotor support design and analysis, oil and thermal management systems, engine externals packaging, and nacelles for commercial and military engine models. Technical disciplines include project engineering, mechanical design, structural analysis, product definition, system modeling, and fluid-thermal modeling.
