Senior Design Engineer - MEMS Sensors
PCB manufactures sensors used by design engineers and predictive maintenance professionals to test and measure vibration, pressure, force, acoustics, load and shock for test, measurement, monitoring and control requirements. Our sensors support testing in aerospace and defense, automotive, transportation, civil engineering, and general R&D industries. PCB is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Amphenol Corporation.
About the role
As a Senior Design Engineer - MEMS Sensors, you will be responsible for the design and continuous improvement of MEMS Pressure and Acceleration Piezoresistive sensors. The role involves simulation, design, analysis, fabrication, test, and evaluation of MEMS sensors. You will function as the primary technical contributor for new designs and improvements of existing MEMS sensors, while providing technical guidance and support to on-site MEMS process engineers. Significant interaction with other functions across the organization, including third parties, is required.
Responsibilities
- Under the auspices of a Lead Engineer, use independent judgment and creative latitude to design, develop, or modify products of advanced complexity, applying appropriate engineering principles.
- Simulate, design, fabricate, test, and evaluate new and improved MEMS sensors.
- Work in close collaboration with MEMS production staff in the fabrication, testing, and packaging of products.
- Use failure analysis techniques to determine root cause of failure in manufacturing processes and identify potential solutions.
- Utilize Design of Experiments techniques to iteratively improve low-yielding manufacturing processes.
- Interpret complex mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical specifications; conduct engineering calculations, investigations, analyses, and testing.
- Create and maintain accurate mechanical drawings, schematics, layouts, and technical specifications for products, including components, subassemblies, and assemblies.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and training on products and applications.
- Provide authoritative technical guidance in matters of applications, products, materials, equipment, and processes.
- Analyze data and reports to determine if products meet functional/performance requirements.
- Provide determinations on manufacturability of new product designs.
- Use engineering judgment to analyze competing product design approaches in materials and construction, many of which may involve novelty.
- Use computer-assisted engineering software and equipment for advanced applications involving product design and analysis.
- Possess an in-depth understanding of the causal relationships of product design to performance and product cost, and modify product designs accordingly.
- Demonstrate a deep and thorough understanding of Six Sigma methodologies, such as design (IDOV) and continuous improvement (DMAIC) tools; willing and able to use and teach these tools.
- Employ advanced mathematics, including statistics, to solve engineering problems.
- Follow PCB NPD procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- 10+ years of MEMS design engineering experience (simulation, design, characterization, fabrication techniques, test, evaluation, and metrology).
- Precision component and assembly design experience.
- Electro-mechanical assembly design expertise.
- Experience with tolerance analysis, sensor design, application knowledge, and material/metallurgy properties, selection, and processing.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office software and 3D modeling software.
- Travel as needed.
Benefits
- 100% company-paid medical insurance premiums for you and your family.
- Dental and vision insurance.
- Company-funded HSA or HRA accounts (dependent upon medical insurance enrollment).
- Paid time off.
- Employer-paid basic life insurance, short- and long-term disability insurance.
- 401k company match.
- Tuition reimbursement.
- Dependent scholarship program.
- Company-paid holidays, employee discounts, holiday gift certificate.
