This is a full-time, onsite role at our Aerospace manufacturing plant in Camarillo, CA (Monday–Friday, daylight schedule).

About the role

The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for new product development (NPD/NPI) and/or ongoing engineering support for custom interconnect systems and hold-down release mechanism devices for space and defense applications. The role requires application of sound engineering principles, practical problem solving, and use of engineering tools including product lifecycle management (PLM) software and modeling/drafting software (CAD). The senior design engineer will lead engineering program milestone achievement on led projects and support milestone achievement on supported projects. Projects may include Internal Research and Development (iR&D), new product introduction (NPD/NPI), sustaining engineering, cost-out projects, manufacturing sourcing changes, and new business campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Lead tasks in the development of new products from concept level, through validation and qualification following applicable regulatory and industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate responses to sustaining engineering issues, developing timely, cost-effective solutions.
  • Represent Engineering in the Material Review Board (MRB).
  • Generate models and drawings to capture the engineering design, and manage the review and release of this technical data, as well as related reports and program deliverables, through Eaton’s Product Lifecycle Management database.
  • Generate and review engineering inputs to customer proposals, including technical concepts, preliminary bill of materials (BOMs), test and analysis scope and related expenses, and preliminary engineering labor estimates.
  • Generate and review mechanical design and dimensional analyses.
  • Review structural, thermal, dynamic, and performance analysis for design validation as required.
  • Interface effectively with applicable internal resources analysis teams.
  • Author and/or review test plans, procedures, and reports and setups for development, acceptance, and qualification testing.
  • Drive failure analysis investigations for Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) projects.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external technical and program leadership teams, and to middle management audiences (external and internal).
  • Support marketing and sales teams with technical support and customer visits.
  • Lead product development tasks within the product engineering team, and/or lead sustaining engineering tasks working with cross-functional colleagues.
  • Proactively coordinate with partners such as internal and external test labs, production support staff, and members of integrated product teams (IPTs) to achieve organizational goals.
  • Guide less experienced members of the engineering team on project tasks.
  • Lead failure analysis investigations and troubleshoot design and production issues.
  • Generate and review documents including models, drawings, FEA reports, test plans and reports, project schedules, design guides, and operating manuals.
  • Manage program and product requirements and risks through effective requirements and risk management tools.
  • Collaborate with customer and vendor technical teams effectively and efficiently.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Materials Science from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • 3+ years of work experience in Aerospace product development.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship now and in the future.
  • This position requires the use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be a U.S. person within the meaning of ITAR (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of work experience in engineering product development.
  • Experience working on custom interconnect and actuator product lines for space and defense applications.
  • Experience with CAD modeling and drafting using SolidWorks.
  • Experience using the ENOVIA product lifecycle management software.
  • Experience supporting product qualification activities including analysis and testing.
  • Experience leading material disposition analysis and test for Material Review Boards (MRB) in partnership with Quality Assurance.

Pay

The expected annual salary range for this role is $99,000 – $145,000. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
