About the role
The Senior Data Testing Engineer will ensure the reliability, accuracy, and performance of data systems through effective testing strategies, automation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts for data validation, comparison, and quality assurance.
- Validate data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and integrity across databases and downstream systems.
- Create and execute SQL queries to verify data transformations and investigate data-related issues.
- Perform functional, integration, regression, and automation testing for data-centric applications.
- Collaborate with developers, product managers, and data engineers to define test scenarios and ensure requirements are met.
- Investigate defects, perform root cause analysis, and partner with engineering teams to implement effective solutions.
- Document test cases, validation procedures, test results, and quality standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvements in automation frameworks, testing practices, and overall quality processes.
- Support initiatives that improve the stability, scalability, and reliability of retail data systems.
Requirements
- Experienced quality engineering professional with a strong background in test automation, data validation, and software quality assurance.
- Excellent analytical skills, hands-on programming experience, and the ability to collaborate effectively within agile technology teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of experience as an SDET, Software Test Engineer, QA Automation Engineer, or similar role.
- Strong hands-on experience with test automation using Java and/or Python.
- Solid SQL skills with experience writing queries and validating data in SQL Server environments.
- Experience testing data pipelines, ETL workflows, APIs, and data-driven applications.
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, including functional, integration, regression, and automation testing.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with distributed teams.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and test automation frameworks.
- Experience validating large datasets, migrations, or complex data transformations is a plus.
- Exposure to cloud-based data platforms is beneficial.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to work onsite in Cincinnati, Ohio, or willing to relocate.
