Senior Data Scientist - Remote US

U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract. This position is designated as remote; employees will work primarily offsite (from home) but may be expected to travel to the site location as needed. The successful candidate must reside and work from one of the 50 U.S. states (excluding U.S. territories).

About the role

Raytheon, part of RTX—the world’s largest aerospace and defense company—is seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist to join our Digital Technology Analytics & Automation Applied Artificial Intelligence team. Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world by developing analytic products for agile delivery across RTX business units using AWS and Azure platforms.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate across Raytheon and RTX business units to develop analytic products spanning functional and program areas.
• Translate complex analytical findings into clear insights and recommendations for senior leadership.
• Serve as a technical authority and mentor for data scientists, analysts, and business partners.
• Influence organizational standards by researching and deploying technical solutions for business partners.
• Use commercial software development processes, including code documentation, unit testing, bug tracking, version control, and MLOps concepts for solution development.

Requirements

• University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience.
• Experience with Python development (numpy, scipy, scikit-image, and scikit-learn) for integration into statistical and/or machine learning applications (beyond academic examples).
• Experience with relational database management and SQL development.
• Experience presenting to executive-level management across functional areas and the company.
• Experience applying quantitative techniques (normalization, standardization, applied statistics) to cleanse and explore large, complex data sets.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience meeting with business stakeholders to identify and develop requirements for strategic use cases and research opportunities.
• Experience designing, training, fine-tuning, and deploying Large Language Models (LLMs) (e.g., GPT-based, Mistral, custom transformer architectures).
• Experience creating repeatable, reusable processes and scalable data products using Scaled Agile Framework methodology.
• Proficiency with at least one deep learning framework such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Experience building data visualizations with applications such as Tableau or Microsoft PowerBI.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $132,400 – $251,600 USD. The range provided is a good-faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
