Senior Data Scientist, E-commerce - USDS

About the role

The E-commerce Risk Control and Security team is dedicated to protecting TikTok Shop from fraudulent activities and user abuses, ensuring a trustworthy and user-friendly marketplace. This global team develops and manages foundational platforms including the risk decision engine, enforcement framework, and model & graph platforms, tackling high-throughput e-commerce challenges.

Responsibilities

• Conduct end-to-end data analysis projects involving e-commerce security data, including transaction logs, user behavior data, abnormal order data, and fraud records. Identify security risks and implement data-driven solutions in the production environment.
• Monitor and analyze e-commerce security data trends, such as information leakage and malicious crawling, and identify data anomalies and potential security risks. Improve platform security and protect users and merchants.
• Use statistical methods and data mining technologies to diagnose e-commerce security issues, conduct root cause analysis, and provide implementable security solutions for e-commerce security decisions.
• Collaborate with e-commerce business, product, security, and engineering teams to understand security needs, convert them into data analysis tasks, and design scalable data analysis solutions to address complex security challenges.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Security, Business Analytics, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in data analytics, proficient in SQL, Python, and relevant analytical tools/languages, capable of detecting cyber threats and risks through data-driven approaches.
• Excellent investigative and analytical skills, capable of identifying hidden issues from e-commerce business data and security logs.
• Strong business judgment and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, with strong cross-team communication skills to achieve results.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in data science and e-commerce security risk mitigation, such as data security, traffic security, or anti-bot.
• Familiarity with e-commerce and retail-related business fields, understanding e-commerce security risks and data analysis scenarios.
• Demonstrated communication skills to bridge business and technical teams, able to efficiently promote projects from risk detection to solution implementation; good stress resistance and stability.

Job Information

[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (Annually): The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $176,356 - $329,334 annually. Compensation may vary based on a number of factors, including qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package, which includes discretionary bonuses/incentives and restricted stock units. Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year, and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
