Senior Data Engineer I

Position Summary

This position requires a candidate with a strong technical background in developing and delivering BI solutions, along with a solid understanding of SQL Server environments. The Senior Data Engineer designs and builds data infrastructure, manages big data, and ensures the smooth operation of data pipelines.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Meet with clients to understand their business processes and needs.
• Work with HBS Sales Solutions consultants to identify and grow opportunities within client environments.
• Support and administer the underlying infrastructure and layout of a client data environment.
• Develop and design the process for customer data collection.
• Develop policies and procedures for the collection and analysis of data.
• Review customer sources to ensure data integrity.
• Collaborate with BI Data Developers to meet requirements for building the right solution.
• Estimate development effort and streamline operations for efficiency and profitability.
• Use business analysis skills to identify development needs.
• Work independently or as part of a team on project-based solutions.
• Mentor other engineers in developing scalable, secure, high-performance BI and Data solutions.
• Meet annual billable hour goal as defined by HBS.

• Data Model Design: Experience with physical, conceptual, or both.
• Data Warehousing Systems: Practical, successful implementations of multi-dimensional/relational database structures and schemas.
• System Design, Development, Deployment: Knowledge of Microsoft BI Suite (Excel, SSIS, ADF).
• Programming and Processing: Experience with T-SQL, ETL, and other programming languages.
• Azure Experience: Familiarity with Azure SQL Database or Azure SQL Managed Instance.
• SQL Expertise: Strong knowledge of SQL utilizing MS SQL Server.
• Professional Services Experience: Experience in multiple industries (Education, Healthcare, Retail, Manufacturing).
• PowerShell Knowledge: Understanding of PowerShell and its applications.
• Report Writing and Visualization: Experience with report writing and visualization tools.
• GitHub Copilot Experience: Familiarity with GitHub Copilot.
• Microsoft BI Suite Experience: Proficiency in Power BI or Fabric.
• Microsoft Certifications: Data Analyst Associate, DP-200, DP-201, DP-300.

Required Experience

• 7+ years of experience in technology-related roles.
• Experience in data model design (physical, conceptual, or both).
• Experience with needs analysis, software evaluation, and selection, customization, and implementation.
• Experience with data warehousing systems and architectures.
• Knowledge of multi-dimensional/relational database structures and schemas.
• Strong knowledge of system design, development, and deployment.
• Experience with Microsoft BI Suite (Excel, SSIS, ADF).
• Programming and processing experience (T-SQL, ETL).
• Azure Experience: Working with Azure SQL Database or Azure SQL Managed Instance.
• Expertise in SQL utilizing MS SQL Server.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in multiple industry verticals (Education, Healthcare, Retail, Manufacturing).
• PowerShell knowledge and understanding.
• Understanding of report writing and visualization.
• Experience with Microsoft BI Suite (Power BI or Fabric).
