About the role
The Senior Data Engineer will play a pivotal role in the Data Engineering team at Mozilla. The team manages the entire data lifecycle, transforming raw data into reliable, high-quality models that support Mozillians in making data-driven decisions. Recent improvements include launching a data catalog, introducing data observability, and implementing a medallion architecture to ensure data reliability, accuracy, and accessibility.
Responsibilities
- Build and manage business data pipelines and transform Firefox telemetry data into structured datasets that Mozillians can rely on.
- Partner with data scientists, product, and marketing teams to derive insights from complex datasets and inform company decisions.
- Maintain data quality by using observability tools to monitor and resolve data issues.
- Evolve the data platform by collaborating with other data engineers and platform engineers.
- Maintain data integrity by ensuring compliance with data governance and privacy policies.
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience in data engineering.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python, with an interest in integrating AI into data engineering workflows.
- Experience mapping complex business processes into extensible, analytical data models.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, building modular, reusable code, and efficient logic.
- Self-directed execution, comfortable taking high-level goals and turning them into actionable plans.
- Collaborative spirit, excellent communication skills, and ability to work effectively with a distributed team.
Qualifications
- A track record of recommending and implementing new data collection methods to improve data model quality.
- Experience using data to answer specific questions and guide company decisions.
- Experience with cloud distributed systems, including distributed databases, message queues, or batch/stream processing.
- Ensuring data safety through smart orchestration, error handling, and idempotency.

Pay
US Tier 1 Locations: $123,000—$164,000 USD
US Tier 2 Locations: $112,000—$150,000 USD
US Tier 3 Locations: $104,000—$138,000 USD
