Senior Data Engineer
About the role
As a Senior Data Engineer at Imagine Learning, you will play a critical role in building and scaling the data platforms that power business intelligence, product innovation, and operational decision making. You will collaborate with product engineering, analytics, and technology teams to design reliable data pipelines, transform complex datasets into actionable insights, and help shape the future of data-driven learning experiences.
Responsibilities
- Manage and optimize data processing pipelines across transactional SQL/NoSQL, streaming, and batch data environments.
- Partner with product engineering teams to design key data elements and scalable data architectures.
- Develop and maintain data solutions using technologies such as Python, SQL, Java, Apache Kafka, and related platforms.
- Support operational responsibilities for data infrastructure and platform reliability.
- Transform complex data into meaningful, actionable information for stakeholders.
- Gather requirements, identify gaps, and build roadmaps that align data solutions with business goals.
- Participate in agile ceremonies including planning, backlog refinement, standups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Build efficient engineering processes that improve speed, quality, and reliability of implementations.
- Perform data analysis and warehousing activities using platforms such as Snowflake and Databricks.
- Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence across the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience, Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience, PhD, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong experience in data engineering, data modeling, and distributed data processing.
- Advanced proficiency in at least one core programming language and framework.
- Experience with data warehouses and data lakes, including Snowflake and Databricks.
- Hands-on knowledge of cloud-native and DevOps technologies such as Kubernetes, Terraform, ArgoCD, AWS CodeBuild, OKTA, or OAuth.
- Experience working across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to mentor engineers and influence technical direction within a team environment.
