Senior Data Architect (contract)

Our client is seeking a Senior Data Architect / Technical Lead with deep expertise in Google BigQuery and dbt to support a large-scale modernization of its enterprise data and analytics ecosystem.

About the role

As part of an ongoing transformation initiative, the consultant will help define the requirements, architecture, and technical design for the client's next-generation data platform while providing guidance on complex migration and optimization efforts.

Key Areas of Focus

• Enterprise data warehouse migration and modernization
• Cross-platform query migration, including Trino-to-BigQuery transitions
• BigQuery architecture, administration, performance tuning, and cost optimization
• Data lakehouse design and Apache Iceberg catalog modernization
• dbt implementation and data modeling best practices
• Generative AI and LLM adoption, including AI agent enablement and model evaluation
• Cloud platform governance, decommissioning, and operational planning
• Observability, monitoring, and platform reliability using tools such as Grafana

Requirements

• Expert-level experience with Google BigQuery
• Strong hands-on experience with dbt
• Proven success delivering enterprise data warehouse migration initiatives
• Experience with Trino or similar distributed query engines
• Strong understanding of Data Lakehouse architectures and Apache Iceberg
• Cloud data platform architecture and modernization expertise
• Experience supporting Generative AI / LLM initiatives
• Familiarity with observability and monitoring platforms, including Grafana
• Experience managing cloud governance and infrastructure decommissioning activities
• Excellent stakeholder management, presentation, and communication skills

Pay

$49.63/hour - $77.86/hour
