Senior Data Analytics Specialist
About the role
The Office of Workforce Development (OWD) at the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) oversees several federal workforce programs and provides free job training and services through local OhioMeansJobs centers and OhioMeansJobs.com. This role involves working with and on teams to track, analyze, and report data for various programs.
Responsibilities
- Work with and on teams to track, analyze, and report data for multiple state and federal workforce programs.
- Provide technical assistance, data reports, insights, and expertise to program and project managers.
- Collaborate on data efforts for current and future projects within ODJFS and with external partners.
- Act as a subject matter expert on federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and directives related to data governance, performance, and reporting systems.
- Support leadership with programmatic data reports, analyses, and executive summaries, and provide policy and operational recommendations.
Requirements
- Advanced knowledge of data analytics, statistical methods, data science, data visualization principles, tools, and best practices.
- Experience integrating and analyzing data from multiple systems and platforms.
- Experience applying advanced statistical and analytical techniques such as regression, correlation, cluster analysis, data quality, classification, data mining, machine learning, and data visualization.
- Experience conducting data quality reviews to assess accuracy, completeness, and reliability.
- Knowledge of government systems and associated processes.
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly to both subject matter experts and non-experts.
- Problem-solving, decision-making, and process-improvement skills.
Qualifications
- Option 1: 60 months of experience in data analytics or statistical analysis, including 12 months of work experience in data analytics specified by the agency.
- Option 2: Associate degree in data analytics, applied mathematics, statistics, industrial/systems engineering, or related field, plus 42 months of experience in data analytics, statistical analysis, or research methods, including 12 months of work experience in data analytics specified by the agency.
- Option 3: Bachelor's degree in data analytics, applied mathematics, statistics, industrial/systems engineering, or related field, plus 36 months of experience in data analytics, statistical analysis, or research methods, including 12 months of work experience in data analytics specified by the agency.
- Option 4: Graduate degree in data analytics, applied mathematics, statistics, industrial/systems engineering, or related field, plus 24 months of experience in data analytics, statistical analysis, or research methods, including 12 months of work experience in data analytics specified by the agency.
- Option 5: 12 months of experience as a Data Analytics Specialist, including 12 months of work experience in data analytics specified by the agency.

Benefits
Full-time hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Travel to in-state trainings and all-staff meetings occurs approximately three to four times a year. Travel to out-of-state training or conferences may occur.
Pay
This position is in the State of Ohio’s Pay Range 34. Starting salary is the minimum salary of that pay range (step 1, currently $38.01 per hour). Wages increase with continued employment and annual steps, and cost of living adjustments are made each fiscal year.
