About the role

The Senior Dashboard Development Specialist produces reliable, accurate, valid, useful, engaging, and highly impactful data visualizations and self-service dashboards across a wide variety of university issues. Serving as the primary visualization and user experience design specialist within the Decision Support team, this position focuses heavily on front-end wireframing, interface clarity, content refinement, and building interactive dashboard environments.

Working as part of a collaborative team, the Senior Analyst will develop dashboards using advanced equations and visualizations in business intelligence software. Partner with institutional stakeholders and data analysts to identify reporting needs, visual requirements, and key performance metrics that guide university initiatives. Translate complex datasets and institutional logic into visually compelling, clean, and intuitive interactive dashboards centered on actionable performance metrics.

Potential university topics will include but not be limited to: academics; enrollment management; finance; human resources; student success; and inclusive excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Apply user experience and information design principles to eliminate visual clutter, optimize layout hierarchy, and improve data readability.
  • Engage stakeholders in navigating and interpreting dashboard products to cultivate data literacy and drive meaningful institutional improvement.
  • Complete complex dashboard and visualization lifecycle projects from start-to-finish, including:
    • Identifying user persona needs
    • Wireframing and prototyping
    • Implementing unified design themes
    • Refining data-dense interfaces
    • Testing usability layouts
    • Establishing user documentation
  • Develop dashboards using advanced calculations and visualizations in business intelligence platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Present visual concepts and dashboard designs clearly and concisely to diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or higher.
  • Three years of experience in dedicated institutional research, business intelligence, dashboard development, digital product layout, or relevant visual analytics roles (educational or teaching experience may be considered).
  • Experience independently completing complex dashboard and visualization projects from start-to-finish.
  • Strong organizational skills, extreme attention to detail, and visual layout accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple interactive deliverables simultaneously.
  • Experience in dashboard prototyping, user interface configuration, and interactive report building.
  • Proficiency with primary business intelligence platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI), including performing advanced calculations, developing visualizations, and optimizing for users.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship-building capabilities.
  • Collaborative approach to work, with a proven ability to successfully complement backend technical specialists.
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis (no work visa sponsorship provided).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in User Experience (UX) Design, Information Design, Data Science, Visual Analytics, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
  • A robust digital portfolio demonstrating use of design principles to effectively communicate concepts, metrics, and analytic results.
  • Experience establishing clean visualization layer configurations over enterprise data architectures or similarly complex relational models.
  • Familiarity with SQL.
  • Familiarity with digital accessibility rules (e.g., WCAG / Section 508 standards for color contrast, readability, and interface navigation).
  • Knowledge of higher education institutional research or related topics.
  • Demonstrated experience advancing inclusive excellence through objective, transparent, and equitable data framing.
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to the distinctive characteristics of Marianist universities.
