About the role
Embark on a transformative journey as a Senior Cyber Operations Analyst - AVP at Barclays. In this role, you will join the Cyber Operations team, delivering 24/7 continuous monitoring, analysis, incident response, threat hunting, and intelligence services. As a global financial institution managing high-value transactions and sensitive client data, Barclays remains a prime target for cybercriminals. Your work will help protect the bank from operational disruption, regulatory scrutiny, and reputational damage caused by increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
Responsibilities
- Monitor the performance of operational controls, implement and manage security controls, and apply lessons learned to protect the bank from potential cyber-attacks.
- Manage security monitoring systems, including intrusion prevention and detection systems, to alert, detect, and block potential cyber security incidents, ensuring prompt response to restore normal operations with minimized system damage.
- Identify emerging cyber security threats, attack techniques, and technologies to detect and prevent incidents; collaborate with networks and conferences to gain industry knowledge.
- Manage and analyze security information and event management (SIEM) systems to collect, correlate, and analyze security logs, events, and alerts or potential threats.
- Triage data loss prevention alerts to identify and prevent sensitive data from being exfiltrated from the bank’s network.
- Manage cyber security incidents, including remediation and driving incidents to closure.
- Advise and influence decision-making, contribute to policy development, and take responsibility for operational effectiveness.
- Collaborate closely with other functions and business divisions.
- Lead a team performing complex tasks, using professional knowledge and skills to deliver work that impacts the business function.
- Set objectives, coach employees, appraise performance, and determine reward outcomes (if in a leadership role).
- For individual contributors: lead collaborative assignments, guide team members, and identify new directions for projects.
- Consult on complex issues and provide advice to support the resolution of escalated matters.
- Identify ways to mitigate risk and develop new policies or procedures to strengthen controls and governance.
- Take ownership of managing risk and strengthening controls related to your work.
- Perform work closely related to other areas, understanding how they coordinate to achieve organizational objectives.
- Collaborate with other areas to stay aligned with business activity and strategy.
- Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple internal and external sources to solve problems creatively.

Requirements
- Experience with SIEM platforms and the ability to monitor, triage, and document security alerts within a structured SOC environment.
- Ability to conduct initial analysis of security alerts and events, follow established runbooks, and escalate incidents in line with defined procedures.
- Good understanding of common security incidents, including phishing emails, endpoint alerts, and basic network anomalies.
- Ability to identify malware indicators and suspicious activity using endpoint, proxy, IDS, and network security alerts.
- Considerable understanding of core cybersecurity concepts, including attack lifecycles, common threat types, and defense-in-depth principles.
Skills
- Understanding of Windows and Linux fundamentals, along with basic networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, and HTTP.
- Familiarity with common attacker tactics and indicators of compromise from a defensive, blue-team perspective.
- Awareness of cloud computing concepts and basic security considerations across platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
- Proficiency in risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, and digital/technology skills.

Pay
Base salary range: $125,000 – $170,000.
Schedule
This role is located in the Whippany, NJ office.
