About the role

We are seeking a driven, adaptable Software Engineer to join our technical team in Annapolis Junction, MD. In this role, you will help design, develop, test, and maintain complex software systems ranging from data-intensive analytics and algorithm implementations to real-time processing pipelines. You’ll actively contribute to application features, review code for performance and compliance with design requirements, and participate in full software life-cycle activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, plus 2+ years of professional software engineering experience
• OR Master’s Degree in a related technical field (0+ years experience required)
• OR High School Diploma / GED, plus 6+ years of hands-on technical software development experience in lieu of a degree

Required Skills

• Software Development Fundamentals: Hands-on experience developing, debugging, and testing software applications using modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, or C++)
• Problem Solving & Debugging: Strong ability to analyze technical issues, trace software errors, and implement reliable defect fixes
• Agile Software Development: Familiarity working within Agile or Scrum team environments and software version control systems (e.g., Git)
• Technical Writing & Documentation: Skill in documenting test results, system components, and software designs clearly

Desired Skills

• Cloud & Containerization Technologies: Exposure to AWS cloud environments, Docker, or Kubernetes container orchestration
• CI/CD & Automation: Familiarity with automated build and deployment tools such as GitLab CI/CD or Jenkins
• Scripting Skills: Proficiency writing automation or utility scripts in Python or Bash
• Data Processing: Experience working with relational or non-relational databases and distributed data pipelines

Pay

• Annual base salary range: $124,000–$146,000 (USD), not including discretionary bonus compensation
• Option to cash out annual leave hours
• Option to opt out of other Nyla benefits and/or arrange for additional hours on contract (over 40 hrs/week)
• Earn 1.3 times your hourly rate once you work over 1880 hours on contract

Leave

• 4 weeks of Annual Leave plus 11 holidays
• Additional day of Annual Leave for each year at the company
• Option to buy additional annual leave for a total of 6 weeks (up to 240 hours of leave plus 11 holidays)
• Paid anniversary leave

Schedule

• Freedom to scale down to 30–32 hours per week while retaining benefits
