Job Summary

Ford Motor Company’s Office of the General Counsel is seeking a highly skilled attorney to work on regulatory matters.

About the Role

The attorney will advise clients on compliance with the Motor Vehicle Safety Act and identify potential issues that require a safety recall. They will participate in weekly meetings with the Automotive Safety Office and Product Development, and work on Ford’s compliance with NHTSA’s Consent Order.

Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on compliance with the Motor Vehicle Safety Act and identify potential safety recalls.
  • Participate in weekly meetings to review technical product issues and determine if a safety recall is warranted.
  • Collaborate with the Automotive Safety Office to review items for FMVSS compliance.
  • Ensure all drafted documents provided to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration are accurate, clear, legally sound, and enforceable, aligning with company policies and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Conduct targeted legal research as necessary to support the drafting of regulatory documents.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of dedicated experience as a lawyer, with a preference for matters involving the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration or automotive experience.
  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree is required.
  • Must be a licensed attorney in a U.S. state.

  • Collaboration skills to work with larger teams in meetings on a variety of subjects.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret complex business issues and translate them into legal language.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with attorneys and internal business partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Word, for advanced document creation and editing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on significant projects with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in automotive, manufacturing, or consumer products industries.
