Senior Counsel, Litigation

Position Summary

The Senior Counsel, Litigation manages the organization's litigation portfolio, provides strategic legal advice on disputes, and minimizes legal risk across a multi-state healthcare enterprise. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the role serves as the primary legal advisor for litigation and pre-litigation matters and partners with operational and executive leaders.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Serve as lead attorney for litigation matters.
• Develop litigation strategy with executive leadership.
• Evaluate claims and recommend resolution strategies.
• Manage mediations, arbitrations, and settlements.
• Oversee employment, commercial, liability, regulatory, and class action matters.
• Select and supervise outside counsel.
• Monitor litigation budgets and legal spending.
• Advises leaders on dispute resolution and legal risk.
• Prepare litigation reports for leadership and the Board.
• Maintain awareness of legal developments affecting healthcare providers.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school required.
• Experience: 10 years of litigation experience in a law firm or sophisticated in-house legal department required. 5 years of equivalent experience in healthcare. Significant experience managing complex civil litigation required.
• Licenses and Certifications: Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Behavioral Health experience
• Nonprofit organization experience
• Employment litigation experience

Physical And Work Environment Requirements

• Work is performed in an office, clinical, residential, and/or community-based environment depending on role and assignment.
• Duties may require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and working at a computer.
• Work hours may include evenings, weekends, holidays, or extended shifts based on program needs.
• This position is classified as sedentary work.
