Position Summary
The Senior Counsel, Litigation manages the organization's litigation portfolio, provides strategic legal advice on disputes, and minimizes legal risk across a multi-state healthcare enterprise. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the role serves as the primary legal advisor for litigation and pre-litigation matters and partners with operational and executive leaders.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Serve as lead attorney for litigation matters.
- Develop litigation strategy with executive leadership.
- Evaluate claims and recommend resolution strategies.
- Manage mediations, arbitrations, and settlements.
- Oversee employment, commercial, liability, regulatory, and class action matters.
- Select and supervise outside counsel.
- Monitor litigation budgets and legal spending.
- Advises leaders on dispute resolution and legal risk.
- Prepare litigation reports for leadership and the Board.
- Maintain awareness of legal developments affecting healthcare providers.

Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school required.
- Experience: 10 years of litigation experience in a law firm or sophisticated in-house legal department required. 5 years of equivalent experience in healthcare. Significant experience managing complex civil litigation required.
- Licenses and Certifications: Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction required.

- Employment litigation experience
Physical And Work Environment Requirements
- Work is performed in an office, clinical, residential, and/or community-based environment depending on role and assignment.
- Duties may require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and working at a computer.
- Work hours may include evenings, weekends, holidays, or extended shifts based on program needs.
- This position is classified as sedentary work.
