About the role
Eversource Energy, a Fortune 500 diversified electric, natural gas and water utility company, seeks a Senior Counsel with experience in environmental compliance, land use, and infrastructure siting.
Responsibilities
- Represent Eversource’s interests in a broad range of environmental matters, transactions and infrastructure projects.
- Support company transactions and infrastructure projects, including siting and permitting energy facilities in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire.
- Work with environmental and other state regulatory agencies, municipalities, and attend hearings before state public utility commissions.
- Collaborate with contract counterparties, external contractors and vendors, and may also supervise outside counsel.
- Work with internal environmental, regulatory, transmission siting, project engagement, and real estate functions, as well as operating company and management personnel.
- Periodically travel to attend in-person meetings with internal and external stakeholders and/or attend hearings before federal, state and local regulatory agencies.
Requirements
- Candidates admitted to practice in Connecticut, Massachusetts or New Hampshire are preferred.
- Candidates with at least 5 years of experience having prior utility or energy industry experience, real estate and transactional experience are strongly preferred.
- Self-motivated, able to work closely and collaboratively with in-house legal counsel, internal business clients, company management and, in certain cases, outside counsel.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills and legal research abilities.
Qualifications
- Requires knowledge of and experience with environmental and land use law to support company transactions and infrastructure projects, including siting and permitting energy facilities in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire.
- Working knowledge of environmental laws/regulations, including, but not limited to, project siting issues, applicable state Environmental Justice laws, air, water quality, hazardous waste, assessment and remediation of hazardous materials/oil sites, wetlands, cultural and natural resources.
- Experience with energy or public utilities is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits
