Position Summary
The Senior Counsel will work alongside the General Counsel at KBS to support the legal division in optimizing operations and minimizing business risk.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Advise on and ensure compliance with applicable corporate laws, employment regulations, and industry-specific legal standards.
- Manage and oversee litigation and investigations in-house, including employment claims, regulatory matters, and commercial disputes; coordinate closely with internal leadership and engage external counsel only when necessary.
- Drive legal operations efficiencies, leveraging technology and processes to improve legal service delivery.
- Collaborate with HR and executive leadership.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments and evaluate their impact on company operations.
- Develop, implement, and maintain corporate legal policies and procedures, including those related to litigation management, investigations, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance; ensure policies align with business operations and evolving legal standards.
- Foster strong cross-functional relationships and act as a strategic legal advisor to executive leadership.
- Develop, coach, and manage a legal team.
Knowledge and Skills
- In-depth understanding of corporate law and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience working with or within large-scale business organizations.
- Familiarity with risk management.
- Knowledge of Legal operations and legal technology platforms.
- Industry knowledge with facilities and building maintenance services industry.
Skills
- Proficient in employment and labor law, including workplace investigations and compliance.
- Strong ability to conduct, manage, and resolve in-house investigations and litigation.
- Skilled in legal policy drafting and implementation.
- Effective communicator with excellent legal writing and negotiation skills.
- Technologically proficient with legal/HR systems.
Job Experience Requirements
- 10 years of legal experience in the handling of General Liability, Auto Liability, Workers’ Compensation and/or employment-related claims and litigation is required.
- Previous experience managing a legal team.
- Background partnering with outside legal counsel.
- Working with union and non-union environments.
Educational Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school is required.
- Active admission to practice law in one or more states is required.
