Senior Corporate Accountant
About the role
SUGARED + BRONZED has redefined airbrush tanning with a proprietary solution and reintroduced an all-natural, ancient Egyptian method of hair removal called sugaring. Our commitment is to deliver exceptional services in vibrant, welcoming spaces that elevate your experience and brighten your day.
We're building an accounting function where automation handles the repetitive tasks—exporting reports, rekeying figures, chasing approvals—so you can focus on the work that requires real expertise: spotting discrepancies, interpreting lease clauses, and ensuring accuracy. This isn’t an aspirational goal; we’ve already implemented AI and data infrastructure across the business, and our VP of Accounting also leads AI initiatives for the entire organization. You’ll join a team where the tools, infrastructure, and mandate for automation already exist—what we need is someone eager to use them.
This is a hands-on accounting role with a twist: you’ll automate your own recurring work, question inefficient processes, and collaborate with a team that values curiosity and accuracy over "how we’ve always done it." The core of the job is owning the numbers—payroll, reconciliations, real estate finance, and period-end close—while layering automation on top of solid fundamentals.
Responsibilities
- Payroll: Weekly processing for hourly and salaried employees across all locations, including timecard/PTO review, adjustments, journal entries, and reconciliations.
- Spend: Expense coordination via spend management tools, including coding, receipt/approval follow-up, and month-end accruals.
- The close: Monthly/quarterly reconciliations, journal entries in QuickBooks Online, GL maintenance, bank/credit card reconciliations, prepaids, accruals, and balance sheet support.
- Real estate finance: Rent calendar management for every studio, lease obligation tracking, and landlord charge review to prevent overpayments or missed deadlines.
- Audit and period-end: Preparing schedules, tie-outs, and documentation to ensure accuracy and efficiency during audits.
- Cross-functional work: Partnering with Operations and Real Estate teams—this role isn’t siloed.
- Automation: Identifying repetitive tasks, proposing tools/workflows, and collaborating with the team to implement solutions. You won’t figure this out alone; we’ll provide support, training, and time to get it right.
Requirements
- 3+ years of accounting experience (payroll and multi-location experience a plus).
- Strong full-cycle accounting fundamentals: accruals, prepaids, journal entries, and defensible reconciliations.
- Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets (formulas, structured data—not just data entry).
- High accuracy standards and ability to meet recurring deadlines without micromanagement.
- Comfort with detail and volume; repetitive work must still be error-free.
- Genuine curiosity about automation (this is a core requirement).
- Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred).
Nice to have
- QuickBooks Online experience (or comparable system).
- Rippling experience (we use it but will train).
- Experience with AI tools, scripts, or automation in finance.
- Multi-entity or retail accounting background.
Benefits
- Health, dental, and vision insurance.
- 401(k) with company match.
- Paid vacation and holidays.
- Complimentary services and products (including tanning and sugaring).
- A small team where your ideas for improvement are heard and implemented.
Pay
$80,000 – $95,000 USD per year (Corporate – Santa Monica Office).
