Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly journal entries related to corporate accounting processes and month-end close.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations, account analysis, accrual calculations, lead sheets, and other related accounting schedules for the Great Day parent company.
- Research variances, reconciling items, and unusual balances and ensure issues are resolved timely and clearly documented.
- Absorb and support financial reporting adjustments used in the enterprise consolidation process.
- Review accounting submissions, reconciliations, and supporting schedules received from divisional controllers for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to company standards.
- Partner with divisional controllers to clarify expectations, resolve accounting issues, and drive timely completion of close deliverables.
- Act as the primary administrator and subject matter expert for Great Day’s financial consolidation software.
- Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
- Understand and explain variances to prior periods, forecast, and plan for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities to ensure timely and accurate reporting for Great Day Improvements, LLC.
- Work with independent auditors and insurance department auditors to support audits and ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements.
- Assist in identifying process improvements, documenting policies and procedures, and strengthening internal controls.
- Recommend improvements to accounting processes, workflows, and supporting documentation to increase efficiency, consistency, and accuracy.
- Cross-train as backup support for other staff in the event of absences or business need.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Strong technical accounting skills, including reconciliations, accruals, lead sheets, close support, and account analysis.
- Ability to review, question, and improve accounting work prepared by others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across a broad group of controllers and business partners.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with all levels of the organization.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to take initiative, prioritize work, and manage multiple deadlines.
- Accuracy and strong attention to detail.
- Strong research, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working in an environment requiring analytical responses to a variety of business issues.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage concurrent deadlines and shifting priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, with strong Excel skills preferred.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required, MBA a plus.
- Experience in corporate accounting, multi-entity environments, and/or consolidation support strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- CPA is a plus.
