Senior Continuous Integration (CI) Engineer
About the Role
Boston Scientific was recognized by Forbes as one of the Best Workplaces for Engineers in 2026, reflecting a culture where engineers do meaningful work. We are seeking a Senior Continuous Integration (CI) Engineer to design, maintain and continuously improve the build and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) infrastructure supporting software used in medical device systems. In this role, you will take ownership of reliable, repeatable and traceable build processes while collaborating with software developers, quality engineers, DevOps and cross-functional teams to support software development and release activities. You will work in a dynamic engineering environment supporting multiple software products and concurrent release branches deployed on different schedules across global markets. As our Kubernetes-based build and server infrastructure continues to evolve, you will play a key role in modernizing CI/CD practices, improving automation and expanding support for additional products and engineering teams. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex build and infrastructure challenges, takes ownership of systems that development teams depend on and embraces opportunities to learn new technologies. Success in this role requires balancing modern CI/CD practices with the quality, reliability and rigor essential to developing regulated medical device software.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, maintain and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines and associated build infrastructure using GitLab CI/CD.
- Maintain and enhance containerized build environments leveraging Kubernetes, Docker, Helm and related technologies.
- Automate software build, test, packaging and deployment workflows using modern build tools, scripting languages and automation technologies.
- Troubleshoot build, dependency, infrastructure, test and pipeline failures to ensure reliable software delivery.
- Support multiple concurrent development and release branches, including software products released on different schedules across global markets.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity and engineering teams on software composition analysis and software bill of materials (SBOM) activities, including reviewing outputs generated by tools such as Syft.
- Maintain CI/CD technical and operational documentation and support software release activities, including associated build, configuration and release documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in software engineering, DevOps, build engineering, CI/CD or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to design, maintain and troubleshoot automated software build and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with software build and dependency management tools.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation using Bash, Python, PowerShell or similar languages.
- Working knowledge of Git, Linux-based development or build environments, and modern software configuration management practices.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across software, build tooling and infrastructure.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to document technical processes and work across engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Helm or other containerization and orchestration technologies.
- Experience with Maven, Gradle and artifact repositories such as Nexus or Artifactory.
- Knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) or comparable cloud infrastructure.
- Ability to support complex branching and release strategies, including multiple software versions under concurrent development.
- Background in the medical device industry or another highly regulated industry, including familiarity with FDA regulations, ISO 13485, IEC 62304 or similar requirements.
- Familiarity with SBOM concepts and tools such as Syft, software composition analysis, static application security testing (SAST) and related application security practices.
- Experience with software release documentation or validation of software development tools in a regulated environment.
