Responsibilities
- Own the creation and execution of an aggressive editorial calendar — writing and editing blog posts, articles, eBooks, and thought leadership content that grows Foundant's voice and authority in philanthropy.
- Interview and source directly from clients, practitioners, and thought leaders to bring original, practitioner perspectives into the work.
- Build relationships with clients and the larger philanthropic community that become recurring sources for content.
- Develop original ideas grounded in sector trends and practitioner insights.
- Optimize content for SEO and organic discovery, working closely with Demand Generation on keyword strategy and performance.
- Navigate the nuance across different client segments and adapt voice and messaging accordingly.
- Set and uphold a high bar for writing quality, clarity, and voice across content, including editing contributions from other writers or subject matter experts.
- Repurpose and adapt long-form content into shorter formats (social, email, event materials) in partnership with the broader marketing team.
- Manage a bench of freelance writers and/or junior team members — briefing, editing, and getting their work to a publishable standard.
- Partner with Client Success, Sales, and Client Marketing to surface and shape compelling client stories and ground content in what matters most to our audiences.
- Work closely with Product Marketing to stay aligned on core messaging and ensure a consistent voice across our broader narrative and product story.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 7+ years of extensive experience in content writing, editorial, or content marketing roles, ideally with a journalism background. Exposure or experience in philanthropy, nonprofit, or other mission-driven sectors is a plus.
- A strong portfolio of published writing and editing for thought leadership, blog, or long-form content that demonstrates original thinking and clear, engaging writing.
- Demonstrated editorial experience in a fast-paced environment creating, managing, and editing multiple pieces of content at once.
- Experience conducting interviews and turning conversations with clients, prospects, practitioners, or subject matter experts into compelling narrative content.
- Experience with SEO and GEO fundamentals and writing for organic and AI-driven discovery.
- Comfort moving between big-picture editorial strategy and the detailed work of drafting and revising individual pieces.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple pieces of content, deadlines, and stakeholders at once.
- Experience working in a CMS to publish, format, and manage content (e.g., WordPress, or similar).
- Background and comfort using AI to assist with writing and research. Claude experience preferred.
- Comfortable operating in a growing organization shaped by multiple products and segments.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
Skills
- Adaptive Achievement: Hold an aggressive editorial calendar to deadline while adapting quickly when a story angle, source, or priority shifts mid-flight.
- Business Insight: Understand the philanthropic sector well enough to spot trends and practitioner pain points worth writing about, and connect content back to demand generation and pipeline goals.
- Service Orientation: Treat every client and practitioner interview as a relationship to build, not just a source to extract a quote from — leaving people glad they talked to Foundant.
- Productive Collaboration: Work closely with Demand Generation, Product Marketing, Client Success, and Sales, briefing and editing contributors so the whole team's voice reads as one.
- Active Learning: Stay current on SEO/GEO best practices and AI-assisted writing and research tools, and bring what you learn into how the team works.
