About the role

We are looking for a Senior Content Editor to help uphold and improve the quality and consistency of the Avalara brand across all marketing assets. You will ensure marketing content is accurate, grammatically correct, and aligned with Avalara's voice, style guidelines, and distribution channel requirements. This high-impact role sits at the intersection of Marketing, Product, Legal, and Corporate Communications. This is a remote US-based position reporting to the Senior Manager, Content Strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Support the editorial team in refining and improving Avalara’s editorial guidelines and processes.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Avalara’s voice, tone, and style—mentoring new employees and inspiring the broader Content Strategy team.
  • Oversee the team’s AI-powered content systems to ensure all AI-generated output meets brand standards and reflects core messaging.
  • Provide revisions to marketing assets, including copyediting, accuracy checks, and voice/style edits.
  • Ensure assets are optimized for each distribution medium—email (template guidelines), web (metadata and SEO), newsletters, blogs, data sheets, and more.
  • Edit and improve materials written by internal and third-party resources.
  • Collaborate with internal design teams and external designers (contract, freelance, and agencies) to ensure quality finished products.
  • Obtain stakeholder approval on major edits and ensure timely completion of content reviews.
  • Work with marketing, product management, legal, and product development to integrate content and achieve quality outputs.
  • Consult with legal on messaging and compliance-related content.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts degree or comparable experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of editing experience.
  • Experience proofreading and ensuring adherence to style and voice guides.
  • Experience producing and editing content for the web, including SEO optimization.
  • Experience in a multi-language publishing environment, including globalization for translation.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, and Premiere).
  • Working knowledge of project management tools (Jira or Workfront).
  • Experience with team collaboration and planning tools (Slack, Miro, Monday.com).

Pay

The base pay range varies by location:

  • Colorado: $100,300 - $160,500 (annually)
  • Washington: $100,300 - $177,200 (annually)
  • California: $100,300 - $194,300 (annually)
  • New York City: $110,800 - $194,300 (annually)

The successful candidate’s actual salary may vary based on geographic location, experience, qualifications, and market considerations. This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.
