Senior Consultant | Smart Buildings
About the role
Buro Happold is seeking an experienced Senior Smart Buildings Consultant to join our Digital Advisory Team in the United States. The role involves leading digital and smart building programs, developing business cases, and managing technology procurement processes.
Responsibilities
- Lead the strategy, business case development, and delivery of digital and smart building programs from concept through operational handover.
- Develop prioritized use cases, technology roadmaps, and investment cases that align digital solutions with client business objectives.
- Manage technology procurement processes, including market assessments, supplier evaluations, tender management, and contract structuring.
- Review and assess technical proposals and solution architectures, including BMS, EMS, BOS, IoT platforms, analytics platforms, and OT/IT convergence solutions.
- Establish governance frameworks, reporting structures, and commercial controls while managing scope, budget, risks, and program dependencies.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into clear business recommendations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with technology vendors and industry partners to ensure recommendations remain current and market-informed.
- Develop and enhance digital transformation methodologies, tools, templates, and advisory frameworks.
- Design and facilitate client workshops to identify opportunities, accelerate understanding, and build stakeholder alignment.
- Mentor and support team members while contributing to the continuous growth of the Digital Advisory practice.
- Support business development efforts through proposal development, client engagement, and innovative go-to-market offerings.
Requirements
We are looking for candidates with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and 4+ years of experience leading or managing digital and smart building programs, ideally spanning strategy, business case development, and delivery. 2+ years of experience with smart building technologies, including BMS, EMS, BOS, IoT platforms, analytics solutions, and OT/IT convergence is also required. Proven experience developing business cases, use-case portfolios, and implementation roadmaps for digital and smart building initiatives is necessary. Experience managing procurement processes, supplier evaluations, and technology-related contract structuring is essential. Strong commercial acumen and ability to align technology solutions with business objectives is required. Experience leading projects or workstreams with direct client interaction and stakeholder management responsibilities is beneficial. Familiarity with consulting methodologies such as MSP, design thinking, or similar frameworks is helpful. Expertise in one or more of the following areas: digital strategy, innovation, business case development, digital procurement, enterprise architecture, operating models, governance, program advisory, or information management is desirable. Understanding of the construction process and/or experience within the built environment industry is preferred. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is expected. Relevant professional or business qualifications (e.g., MBA, ACA, CA, or similar) are beneficial.

Benefits
The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $130,000, which will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience.
