About the role
The Senior Consultant in Revenue Cycle and Financial Operations within our Healthcare Business Transformation practice advises physician groups, health systems, private equity, and technology companies on strategies to optimize financial performance and operating effectiveness across the revenue cycle.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end assessments of Revenue Cycle and Financial Operations, including patient access, charge capture, coding, billing, denial management, collections, and performance management.
- Synthesize financial, operational, and clinical data to diagnose root causes, quantify value, and prioritize initiatives across the revenue cycle and financial operations.
- Design transformation roadmaps and lead implementation of process, policy, and governance changes that reduce denials, accelerate cash, improve accuracy, and enhance the patient financial experience.
- Serve as a primary advisor to client executives; develop and deliver executive-ready narratives, recommendations, and decision materials.
- Drive engagement delivery: define scope and approach, build and manage integrated workplans, oversee budgets and timelines, and ensure high-quality outcomes across all workstreams.
- Train junior resources through coaching, skill development, and performance feedback; set expectations and enable capability transfer.
- Establish KPI frameworks and governance routines; monitor performance to sustain improvements post-engagement and drive continuous improvement.
- Partner with technology and digital teams to optimize revenue cycle and financial operations systems, workflows, automation/AI, reporting and other bolt-on vendors.
- Contribute to practice development through thought leadership, proposal support, and relationship building; stay current on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in healthcare finance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3+ years of relevant experience
- Proven knowledge of revenue cycle or financial operations functional areas, performance metrics, and enabling technologies; ability to translate insights into practical operating models.
- Proven track record supporting complex projects, achieving measurable outcomes (e.g., denial reduction, cash acceleration, productivity, and quality improvements), and sustaining results.
- Experience with major EHR/RCM platforms (Epic, Oracle/Cerner, Meditech, Athena, NextGen, etc.) and partnering with technology teams to improve end-to-end workflows and reporting.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and structured thinking skills; comfort working with large datasets to inform executive decisions.
- Excellent executive communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to lead client-facing discussions, influence senior stakeholders, and manage change across operational leaders.
- Experience with relational database tools and data analysis (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Access, etc.) and/or BI/reporting tools.
