About the role

The Senior Consultant within Continuous Improvement & Data Analytics (CIDA) supports Boston University leadership and other key stakeholders to implement strategies, frameworks, systems, and initiatives that optimize processes and increase data-driven decision making. This role is part of the internal consulting team and offers a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Leads complex, cross-functional consulting projects, including determining and defining project scope and objectives, identifying resource needs, supervising project team members, preparing project budgets, and developing and managing detailed project schedules.
  • Incorporates best practices, tools, templates, and standards throughout project execution.
  • Builts and maintains relationships with process owners across the University to provide consulting support and identify project opportunities.
  • Synthesizes large volumes of information into concise, actionable insights for decision-making.
  • Develops comprehensive presentations that succinctly summarize insights/recommendations and are easily scalable for different audiences.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of standardized tools, templates, and methodologies to support CIDA work and ensure quality deliverables.
  • Drives innovation at Boston University through collaborative problem solving, engaging in staff development, and actively seeking opportunities for efficiencies and improvements.
  • Collaborates with Data Solution Consultants and Developers on projects where data analysis or data solutions would complement consulting work.
  • Represents Financial Affairs and CIDA on committees, projects, and other work as needed.
  • Advances the responsible and strategic use of artificial intelligence (AI) across the University by identifying high-value use cases, advising leaders on opportunities and risks, and integrating AI-enabled approaches into CIDA’s projects and engagements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5-8 years of relevant experience in client service, management consulting, financial analysis, or process improvement.
  • Proven track record in leading successful projects to drive organizational change.
  • Strong organizational skills and familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; ability to frame hypotheses and design analytical approaches to assess them and ability to draw meaningful insights and conclusions from data.
  • Able to effectively manage multiple projects concurrently and develop a project plan without established guidance.
  • Effective communication skills (both oral and written) to articulate rationale behind recommendations and gain buy-in from stakeholders. Comfortable presenting to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Exceptional judgment and intuition to navigate ambiguity and uncertainty in decision-making contexts, combined with a commonsense approach.
  • Aptitude for considering diverse perspectives and stakeholder interests when making decisions.
  • Ability to work optimally and collaboratively in a small, collegial, cross-functional team environment.

Preferred Skills

  • MBA or relevant master’s degree
  • Professional certifications such as Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (or willing to get one).
  • Experience in Higher Education and associated administrative (e.g. finance, IT, budgeting, operations) or academic (e.g. research, provost operations, schools/colleges) functions.
