Senior Construction Superintendent – Detention/Corrections

The Superintendent reports to and is directly accountable to the General Superintendent. Ability to travel to various project sites is required.

Responsibilities

• Hire, train, evaluate, and terminate craft personnel following established company policies, procedures, and practices.
• Supervise total construction effort to ensure the project is constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule, including interfacing with client representatives and other contractors.
• Plan, coordinate, and supervise on-site functions.
• Supervise craft employees and other contractors as required by the contract.
• Authorize and approve all project personnel transactions, purchase requisitions, and field design change requests.
• Provide technical assistance, interpret drawings, and recommend construction methods and equipment as required.
• Assist project management in developing and implementing project procedures, working documents, and standards.
• Ensure all on-site personnel comply with project procedures, safety program requirements, and work rules. Document all violations and notify project management; recommend/implement corrective actions as required.
• Work closely with the Safety Director to create constant safety awareness, including rigid enforcement of Ajax Building Company’s Safety Policy.
• Assume responsibility for productivity of crafts, efficient use of materials and equipment, and contractual performance of the project.
• Perform and/or supervise building layout and field engineering.
• Assist project management with drawing interpretations and recommend construction methods and equipment.
• Ensure all personnel comply with safety and working procedures.
• Promote a safe work environment.

Requirements

• 8-10+ years of supervisory experience in the construction field.
• Strong experience as Lead Superintendent on ground-up correctional/detention facilities required.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field.
• Active/Occupied Public Safety / Correctional project experience.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and supervisory skills.
• Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, and methods).
• Thorough knowledge of all safety requirements.
• Ability to motivate employees and handle any situation that occurs on the project.
• Thorough knowledge and exposure within prison systems as a field supervisor.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to see well (either naturally or with correction).
• Coordinate the movements of eyes, hands, and fingers with full use of hands, arms, and fingers.
• Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding.
• Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at any height.
• Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally more.
