Van Acker Construction (VAC) is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Manager / Superintendent to join our project team on a high-end, multi-acre residential construction project featuring multiple structures and extensive landscape systems. This complex role involves leading a site team of superintendents, assistant superintendents, and subcontractors. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with strong organizational skills, curiosity, and the ability to unite diverse teams toward a common goal.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, coordinate, and supervise the construction process from conceptual development through final construction, ensuring timely and economical completion with a focus on quality control.
  • Oversee the organization, scheduling, and implementation of the project to execute designs provided by the project manager and design-architectural team; direct teams to integrate building structure, MEP, and landscape systems.
  • Coordinate and manage people, materials, equipment, budgets, schedules, contracts, and safety for employees and the public; conduct daily site oversight.
  • Regularly review engineering and architectural drawings and specifications to monitor progress and ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and building codes.
  • Meet regularly with owners, subcontractors, architects, and other design professionals to monitor and coordinate all phases of the construction project; interact with city officials and neighbors as needed.
  • Monitor job conditions, anticipate potential issues, and ensure safety compliance and adherence to regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum twenty years of experience in the construction industry, with at least ten years in supervisory and scheduling roles.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent degree/certificate in construction, engineering, business, or related fields.
  • Experience managing construction projects with contract values up to $80M.
  • Prior experience in high-end residential construction is helpful but not required; primary focus is on construction scheduling and project coordination.
  • Strong understanding of contracts, plans, specifications, construction methods, materials, and regulations; ability to read engineering, architectural, and construction drawings.
  • Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office Applications, and scheduling tools; familiarity with job costing and estimating software.
  • Good physical condition: ability to sit, stand, walk the site (including uneven surfaces and long distances), and perform all job duties.
  • Adaptability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment; decisiveness under pressure, especially with unexpected delays or occurrences.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities and teams while analyzing and resolving problems.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with owners, subcontractors, design professionals, city officials, and neighbors; excels in diplomatic negotiations and client relations.

Pay

Base annual salary is $180,000 - $230,000 (DOE), plus an annual discretionary bonus. Actual offers will vary based on experience and skill set.

Schedule

This is an exempt (salaried), full-time role working from the site field office daily, Monday through Friday. Most Senior Construction Managers and Site Superintendents work more than a standard 40-hour week to meet project deadlines or handle delays, weather issues, or emergencies.
