Responsibilities

  • Oversight of construction inspection activities ensuring compliance with project plans, approved shop/working drawings, project documents, and specifications.
  • Reporting observations orally and in writing to direct report.
  • Application of engineering principles, aligning with established procedures.
  • Preparing and submitting accurate, legible, comprehensive, and complete testing and/or inspection reports on a daily basis in accordance with established quality procedures.
  • Reviewing plans, specifications, general notes, and shop/working drawings for assigned activities before performing assigned duties.
  • Performing, supervising, and reporting on frequency compliance and coordinating field tests on materials and completed work using standard methods established by AASHTO, ASTM, or other agencies with appropriately calibrated testing equipment.
  • Training and serving as a lead worker for less experienced workers; assigning work priority tasks.
  • Aiding direct report in planning and coordinating inspection operations.
  • Meeting with contractor's supervisors or other project leaders on project sites to discuss and coordinate testing, sampling, or inspection of construction materials or construction procedures.
  • Reviewing materials tests and completed work performed by inspectors to ensure compliance with requirements of established procedures.
  • Verifying adequacy of samples and locations at which samples are collected to ensure representative distribution of sampling and testing.
  • Ensuring the safe utilization, storage, and maintenance of all documents and tools, including company vehicle.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external personnel.
  • Working closely with direct report to establish priorities and deadlines, as well as providing updates on progress or delays of tasks or assignments.
  • Understanding, adhering to, and participating in Raba Kistner Health & Safety and BBS Programs, setting a good example of safety standards.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 20 years’ experience in roadway and related facilities, construction inspection, or NICET Level IV certification in Transportation Engineering Technology (Highway Construction).
  • Valid driver’s license within the applicable jurisdiction and meeting firm’s auto insurability requirements.
  • Able to travel to project sites and maneuver over rough and uneven terrain.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Thorough knowledge of highway construction plans, construction inspection procedures, and specifications, materials used in highway construction, and materials testing procedures.
  • Knowledge of State specific manual of Uniform Traffic control Devices or National Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices approved by the Federal Highway Administrator as the National Standard.
  • Ability to use hand tools such as sledgehammers, shovels, and picks.
  • Physical abilities to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, stop, and talk.
  • Frequent lifting and moving of up to 70 pounds.
  • Protracted or irregular hours may be required due to client needs.
  • Out-of-town/overnight travel to Raba Kistner offices, client offices, and project locations may be necessary.
