Responsibilities
- Oversight of construction inspection activities ensuring compliance with project plans, approved shop/working drawings, project documents, and specifications.
- Reporting observations orally and in writing to direct report.
- Application of engineering principles, aligning with established procedures.
- Preparing and submitting accurate, legible, comprehensive, and complete testing and/or inspection reports on a daily basis in accordance with established quality procedures.
- Reviewing plans, specifications, general notes, and shop/working drawings for assigned activities before performing assigned duties.
- Performing, supervising, and reporting on frequency compliance and coordinating field tests on materials and completed work using standard methods established by AASHTO, ASTM, or other agencies with appropriately calibrated testing equipment.
- Training and serving as a lead worker for less experienced workers, assigning work priority tasks.
- Aiding direct report in planning and coordinating inspection operations.
- Making presentations to contractor's supervisors or other project leaders on project sites regarding testing, sampling, or inspection of construction materials or construction procedures.
- Reviewing materials tests and completed work performed by inspectors to ensure compliance with requirements of established procedures.
- Verifying adequacy of samples and locations where samples are collected to ensure representative distribution of sampling and testing.
- Ensuring the safe utilization, storage, and maintenance of all documents and tools, including company vehicles.
- Maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external personnel.
- Working closely with direct report to establish priorities and deadlines, providing updates on progress or delays of tasks or assignments.
- Understanding, adhering to, and participating in Raba Kistner Health & Safety and BBS Programs, setting a good example of safety standards.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience in roadway and related facilities, construction inspection, or NICET Level IV certification in Transportation Engineering Technology (Highway Construction).
- Valid driver’s license within the applicable jurisdiction and meeting firm’s auto insurability requirements.
- Able to travel to project sites and maneuver over rough and uneven terrain.
- Good oral and written communication skills and ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Thorough knowledge of highway construction plans, construction inspection procedures, and specifications, materials used in highway construction, and materials testing procedures.
- Considerable knowledge of the State-specific Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices or National Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices approved by the Federal Highway Administrator as the National Standard.
- Ability to use hand tools such as sledgehammers, shovels, and picks.
- Physical capabilities to sit, stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift up to 70 pounds, use hands and reach, and perform mathematical calculations using basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometric functions.
- Completion of Troxler Manufacturing or equivalent radiation safety course to use nuclear gauges, completion of State-specific Technician Training and Certification Program (TTCP) for applicable testing/sampling procedures (or ability to complete within 6 months of employment), and ACI Field Testing Technician Level 1 certifications and trainings are preferred.
- Related experience may be substituted with the approval of the client.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours is necessary due to client needs.
- Out-of-town/overnight travel to Raba Kistner offices, client offices, and project locations may be required.
