Senior Computer Programmer

About the role

Bowhead is seeking a Senior Computer Programmer to join the Hawaii Support Services proposal effort supporting the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Keyport Division Detachment Pacific (NUWCDIVKPT) in Oahu, Hawaii. The incumbent will work directly with the client analyzing complex technical support assignments, collaborate with development teams and product managers to ideate software solutions, and perform a broad range of programming, database, security, and IT support functions.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with the client analyzing complex and unique technical support assignments and data.
• Work with development teams and product managers to ideate software solutions.
• Develop and manage well‑functioning databases and applications.
• Test software to ensure responsiveness and efficiency.
• Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade software.
• Create security and data protection settings.
• Write technical documentation.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and implement network security tools including firewalls, anti‑virus, and intrusion detection services.
• Answer questions about installation, operation, configuration, and customization.
• Apply advanced diagnostic techniques to identify problems, investigate causes and recommend solutions to correct common failures.
• Provide specific support consisting of troubleshooting hardware, software, and network related issues encountered by users.
• Assist with installation of new software releases, system upgrades, evaluation and installation of patches to resolve software related issues.
• Assist with the maintenance and monitoring of the organizational mailbox to ensure timely support for user requests.
• Maintain and develop IT related procedures required to support the organization.
• Maintain data files and monitor system configuration to ensure data integrity.
• Assist in the preparation of a monthly progress and status report.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, engineering or information systems with a specialty in programming (desired).
• Ten (10) years of experience in software systems development and support.
