Senior Composites Engineer (Onsite)

About the Role
Pratt & Whitney, a world leader in aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems, is seeking a Composite Design Engineer to support all phases of the design cycle—from preliminary through detailed design, validation, manufacturing, and operational service. This role is part of Compression Systems Engineering (CSE), responsible for the design, development, and in-service support of fans, low-pressure, and high-pressure compressors for commercial and military engine models.
Responsibilities
- Provide composite design support, resolving design problems of difficult-to-complex scope to ensure project completion.
- Review completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
- Design and implement common procedures and standard work across the organization to optimize efficiency and quality.
- Develop data, layouts, sketches, and notes to present design proposals.
- Lead cross-functional engineering projects, managing scope, schedule, budget, and deliverables to achieve program milestones on time and within budget.
- Prepare and present technical and program status updates to leadership, clearly communicating progress, risks, and required actions.
- Lead engineering change execution, risk assessments, and mitigation planning to reduce cost, schedule, and technical exposure.
- Assist in manufacturing process development at suppliers and ensure manufacturability of component designs, documenting and presenting results.
- Travel approximately 10% of the time.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 5+ years’ relevant experience in Defense/Aerospace or related industries, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and 3+ years of experience.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Advanced Degree in Engineering.
- Active US Security Clearance.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teamcenter, SAP, Microsoft Project, or other project management software.
- Familiarity with non-destructive testing methods for composites.
- Hands-on composites manufacturing experience using hand layup/autoclave, compression molding, or RTM techniques.
- Strong engineering problem-solving skills to drive organizational transformation.
- Effective communication with customers, co-workers, suppliers, and management across disciplines.

Pay
The salary range for this role is $86,800 – $165,200 USD. The range reflects all experience levels, and RTX considers factors such as role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills when extending an offer.
