Senior Components Engineer

The EEE Parts Component Engineer is required to be hands-on and provide technical leadership in the parts selection process, parts management process, parts creation, and quality control. This position supports the development of high-technology space programs across all phases of product development—from proposals, through design, and on to production support.

Tasks include development of component requirements, parts selection, addressing obsolescence, counterfeit parts management, and coordinating with design engineers, supply chain, quality, and reliability engineers. The role drives part standardization, works with component manufacturers and distributors to attain product roadmaps, and maintains the ECAD library. Responsibilities also include reviewing Product Change Notices (PCNs) and GIDEP alerts, advising teams on their impact, and managing data and part number systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership in parts selection, management, and quality control for high-technology space programs.
• Develop component requirements and select parts while addressing obsolescence and counterfeit parts management.
• Coordinate with engineering teams (Project, Design, Manufacturing) to ensure quality and adherence to design requirements.
• Drive part standardization by recommending re-use of parts in the database when appropriate.
• Work with component manufacturers and distributors to attain product roadmaps.
• Maintain and introduce new parts in the ECAD library.
• Review Product Change Notices (PCNs) and GIDEP alerts for impact on components and advise concerned teams.
• Manage data and part number systems, including configuration management and traceability requirements.
• Support all phases of product development, from proposals to production.
• Apply knowledge of space design requirements, PCB CAD designs, high-density interconnects, and high-frequency electronics.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering field and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
• Graduate degree and a minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
• In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 15 years of prior related experience.
• Experience with component obsolescence tools and methods, end-of-life management, COTS, and counterfeit parts.
• Experience in setting up EDM and Parts Management practices.
• Understanding of EEE parts qualification and screening requirements, including JEDEC, EIA, IPC, military, NASA (EEE-INST-002), and ESA standards.
• Knowledge of Quality Assurance and practices for Electronic Component Management Plan (ECMP).
• Knowledge of space design requirements, processes, and applications.
• Knowledge of PCB CAD designs for various assurance levels and vendor capabilities.
• In-depth technical knowledge of passive and active electronic components, processors, memories, connectors, wires and cables, metal finishes, tin whisker mitigation, and lead-free control.
• Understanding of analysis techniques like thermal, structural, high-speed digital, and impedance control.
• Solid understanding of configuration management and requirements traceability.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision, maintain a positive attitude, and uphold high ethical standards.
• Able to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Eligibility for U.S. security clearance.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Microsoft Office tools and grading tools.
• Experience participating in PMPCB reviews, including preparation and presentation of approval requests for non-standard parts.
• Experience in failure analysis/RCCA.
• Experience presenting results and communicating with customers, consultants, and senior management.
• Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Testing (DFT).

Pay

The good faith base salary range for this role is $145,000–$185,000 at the time of this post. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentives.
